SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Too many people are on the waiting list for a second chance at life.San Diego's organ donation group, Lifesharing, says the city and country are facing an organ shortage. In San Diego alone more than 2,000 people are on the waiting list. "There's never going to be enough organs but more people need to talk about organ donation so there can be more organs," said Lisa Stocks, Lifesharing Executive Director.On Friday, transplant recipients gathered to raise awareness about the issue and celebrate their new birthdays made possible because of organ donation.People can register to become donors on the Lifesharing website or at the DMV.You can also become a living donor by giving someone one of your kidneys. 742

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With the unknown future of in-person education, the Cajon Valley Union School District has continued to welcome kids to campus since March, but not as students. They’re offering child care.“They’re getting topics that they typically wouldn’t always get during the school year. Fun, light topics more like a summer camp but still learning,” said Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Karen Minshew.She said their priority is giving a safe place to stay for children as their parents go to work.Gov. Gavin Newsom and California health officials have laid out a plan stating counties have to be off the state’s monitoring list for 14 days before they can reopen schools. Minshew said even with this announcement, their current setup falls within the guidelines.“Nothing had changed in terms of the model for child care so yes there’s was information for schools and what’s possible for schools but not child care,” she said.Danica Mitchell has a son who will be starting first grade in the fall. She dropped him off at Chase Avenue Elementary School for the summer program and said she’s happy with the steps the school has taken to keep the students safe.“I’m emotional because I’m an essential worker so both my husband and I work and we need to work to support our family so it’s very important that my child have somewhere to go,” said Mitchell.Minshew said they are considering four different models for the fall term but no matter what happens regarding education and policies for having students on campus, they will be there to offer childcare no matter what. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— A Poway family is urging people to be aware of a possible new scam that may be luring people away from their homes. One resident says she was almost tricked by a caller who claimed to be an SDG&E employee. A voicemail was left for the Chavez family, saying crews needed to do some work on equipment in the area. It stated, “It requires a helicopter. The helicopter is required from the FAA to have certain properties, like yourself, evacuate the home.”Katharine Chavez says she called the company to confirm. “(They) said let me check your area and came back and said there’s no work planned in your area.”Chavez says she wants to make sure others don’t fall victim to scammers. “It's scary, and you work hard for your stuff,” said Chavez. “To have someone come in and try to take what you work for, or your neighbors, just go out and make your own money.”SDG&E says under FAA regulations they are required to notify residents and evacuate homes for special construction projects, such as transporting a new utility pole by helicopter. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Traffic was blocked Wednesday near the San Diego Superior Court Central Courthouse due to a hazmat investigation. The San Diego Sheriff’s Department confirmed the substance was found in the building at 1100 Union St. about 5 p.m. A court employee said the substance was a white powder found on the 10th floor.Preliminary information from the scene indicates the situation was linked to a letter inside the courthouse, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. By 6:30 p.m., crews determined the powder was harmless. 537
