SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Blood Bank is asking for convalescent plasma donations from patients that have recovered from COVID-19. The plasma is used at local hospitals to help fight COVID-19. Although not a cure for the virus, the plasma has proved to be effective for some patients. The blood bank says they are running low on convalescent plasma because requests from hospitals have gone up. The process of donating takes a little more than an hour, including the check-in process. To donate plasma you must have had a positive COVID-19 test, recovered from the virus and be symptom free for 28 days. Donations are by appointment only. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — There's no better way to observe San Diego's history, and perhaps future, than through public murals throughout the county.While many of these murals serve as a great boost to social media profiles, they often double as a visual journey showing our region's past and what we hold dear.One thing San Diego is often associated with, happiness. Our scenic coastline, diverse communities, and bevvy of sunshine throughout the year can be thanked for that.But for those trying times, the "Smile, You're in San Diego" mural at 1st Ave. and C St. serves as a reminder. The mural's artists, Pheobe Cornog and Roxy Prima of Pandr Design Co., we tasked with the design by the San Diego Tourism Authority."They originally just wanted a smiley face. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The United States Postal Service unveiled its newest forever stamp Wednesday, honoring pioneering astronaut and UC San Diego professor Sally Ride.The ceremony, held at the UCSD campus, featured several of Ride's family and friends, including her life and business parter, Tam O'Shaughnessy, astronaut and Director of the Johnson Space Center Ellen Ochoa, and tennis legend and activist Billie Jean King.RELATED: First American woman in space to be honored with the Sally Ride Forever Stamp"It's amazing the impact and the long-lasting impact that Sally Ride's going to have," King told 10News. "And the stamp, this forever stamp, will be a big help."O'Shaughnessy revealed to 10News that Ride was a stamp collector, herself. "She just kept doing it her whole life, so she would just be so honored with this."Ride was the first American woman in space. Upon leaving NASA, she became a professor. This month, they take place Oct. 24 - 31. The two-story home and store addition was added in 1857 by Thomas Whaley. It was the first two-story brick edifice in San Diego and built using bricks made in Whaley's brickyard.The house operated as one of the first stores in the Old Town area and at one time was Whaley's home, a courtroom, a general store, and a theater simultaneously.While the store served the community in multiple ways during the 1800s, it seems its residents of one of the most haunted homes in America have stayed behind to watch over the grounds.During tours, museum guides will explore the stories of Whaley; his wife, Anna; their children, Violet and Tommie; and "Yankee" Jim Robinson — all of whom are believed to still be at the home in some form."Yankee Jim" was hanged on the grounds in 1852. Guests have reported heavy footsteps and windows being unlatched and opened — even Whaley himself. Others reported seeing Whaley on the home's upper landing, and a full apparition of Anna in the downstairs rooms or garden.Tickets for Halloween tours are for adults and for children, seniors, and military members. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The University of San Diego is working to give a boost to those interested in getting a foot in the door of the ever-growing field of cybersecurity. To create the six-month program, USD partnered with a boot camp company to get people trained and employed in cybersecurity as soon as possible. The program springs out of a need for employees. According to a new economic report, the cybersecurity industry has a more than billion economic impact on San Diego, with a total of 19,660 jobs impacted. More than 150 cyber firms call San Diego home, according to the report. Of those, 75 percent expect to grow their cyber employment in the next 12 months. It's a challenging job market to find those people right now because it is such a high need across the board and across every industry,” said Andy Haass, Chief Engineer at Booz Allen Hamilton.
