SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld San Diego is being allowed to reopen, but certain parts of the park will have to remain closed, a San Diego County spokesman said.A county spokesman told ABC 10News that the park is being allowed to reopen under California’s guidance for zoos.SeaWorld San Diego will be able to open its outdoor areas of the park, but indoor areas -- such as its aquariums -- and rides will not be open to guests under the specific zoo guidance.Under the zoo guidance, the park will have to post a Safe Reopening Plan like other businesses.It remains unknown when the park will officially reopen; SeaWorld San Diego officials did not immediately respond to ABC 10News’ request for comment.The park has been closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic. The park's website states that for season passholders, tickets will be extended as long as the closure lasted.The company’s most recent earnings report revealed troubling numbers from the second quarter and first six months of 2020, including revenue down 96 percent compared to the same time last year.Parents around San Diego said the news is a welcome sign after a summer of closures. Raquel Cusi said her four kids ask when they can go back to SeaWorld on a daily basis."For me I feel like I’ve been born and raised in San Diego, SeaWorld is a staple, and the fact that we can’t be there is sad, so I think it’ll be really awesome for San Diego families," said Cusi.Claudia Harris is a mom of three and said her kids love going to see the killer whales. In a zoom call, the kids all shared their excitement."I’m so excited to watch the killer whale show because the whales are so cool," said her son, while holding a whale toy.SeaWorld is joining the San Diego Zoo and the USS Midway in partial reopenings, but a LEGOLAND spokesperson said they have not been told when that park will reopen. LEGOLAND General Manager Kurt Stocks said, in a statement, “LEGOLAND California Resort is ready and eager to open once the state and county guidelines are given. All health and safety guidelines that have been approved for other San Diego attractions can easily be observed at our Park even if it means closing the very few indoor attractions.” 2219

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Some San Diego Police Department officers are being isolated as they await test results for coronavirus, according to SDPD Chief David Nisleit.Those officers were exposed to the virus and are currently under isolation, Chief Nisleit told 10News anchor Jim Patton. A police spokesperson added that officers have been self-reporting possible exposure, both on-duty and off-duty. A medical expert then determines if they should be tested. "We're taking great care of them, absolutely," Nisleit added.Precautions are being taken by law enforcement across the county. A spokesperson from Oceanside Police says they're doing more phone or online reports when possible. Dispatch and officers are also asking more questions about cold and flu-like symptoms.A video from the Chula Vista Department tells the public, "We may ask you to wear a mask."Starting Friday, Chula Vista Police will be taking an extra step. A spokesperson says they'll strongly suggest officers wear protective equipment for all interactions with the public closer than six feet. The San Diego Sheriff's Department, along with El Cajon, Chula Vista, Oceanside, and Carlsbad Police say none of their officers has tested positive. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Students at the University of California San Diego are still reeling from Wednesday's storm that flooded more than a dozen apartments.Students told 10News they were shocked when water poured in around 11 p.m. during the storm. One young man, who didn't want to be identified, said the water seeped in under the door and poured in through a floor-length window in their bedroom."So every angle yeah, it instantly started soaking everything under my bed," he said, adding the water was freezing cold.RELATED: Rain floods buildings on the campus of UC San DiegoHe took videos documenting the two inches of water that seeped in."If I wasn't here, then every bit of electronics we had out here would've been completely ruined, hundreds of dollars worth of stuff," the man told 10News.Another student shared her experience, saying she was walking back to her dorm after studying and found "about a 4-foot deep puddle leading up to my door." She said once she opened the door mud and water flowed in.She said the timing was terrible."I have a midterm Monday, I'm actually getting tutoring right after this, it's a bit crazy."Students scrambled, trying to get help from the university and relocate. One student told 10News she never got help from the university, despite calling multiple times Wednesday night and getting a case number.Thursday morning cleaning companies went to work, installing fans in the rooms and peeling off baseboards.Some students said the university is doing a great job."Is there something we can brainstorm to fix this so it doesn't happen in the future, because I can only imagine what's going to happen next week when it rains harder and I'd hate to come back from break and see, 'oh everything's damaged." a student said.The university said four students were relocated to temporary housing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several San Diego events this week will resume as planned in the face of the county's increased precautions surrounding the coronavirus.County leaders cautioned the public Thursday to practice common-sense actions to protect themselves from not only coronavirus but the current flu season as well, as several large-scale events are set to headline the weekend.This week, other major events in the U.S. were outright canceled over coronavirus concerns, including South by Southwest spring festival in Austin and Miami's Calle Ocho and Ultra music festivals.
