(KGTV) - Chula Vista Mayor Mary Salas outlined the city’s recent accomplishments and layed out its future goals in her fourth State of the City Address Tuesday night. Salas went over the growth and achievements San Diego County's second-largest city has seen over the last year, including neighborhood revitalization and the approval of the Bayfront Project. During the address, Salas spoke about events that drew large crowds over the last year.Salas said the city’s Fourth of July celebration in 2017 drew a crowd of 15,000 while more than 35,000 people attended HarborFest on the Bayfront.RELATED: Port of San Diego, Chula Vista moves forward with bayfront developmentThe Mayor also spoke about growth happening in Third Avenue Village citing the Lemon Fest, Taste of Third and Village Summer Nights in June. A popular topic throughout California in recent years is infrastructure. Salas said the Chula Vista has launched a million street paving project to repair streets.More than 300 residential streets are being rebuilt as part of the project.The Mayor also spoke about a half cent sales tax increase that will be added to the June ballot saying the tax increase “is a small price to pay to ensure the safety of our families.”In the final moments of her address, Salas spoke about the Bayfront Development she says will bring 2,000 construction jobs and 5,000 permanent jobs to the city.What is the most important issue to you? (KGTV) -- A small plane believed to be heading to San Diego crashed in southwest Las Vegas Thursday morning.KTNV, ABC 10News' Scripps sister station in Las Vegas, reported the Clark County Fire Department and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a small plane going down at around 9:30 a.m. local time near Raven Avenue and Hinson Street, several miles southwest of the Las Vegas Strip.The plane burst into flames following the crash.The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) told KTNV there were two people in the twin-engine Cessna 310 at the time of the crash. KTVN, citing the Clark County Fire Department (CCFD), reported the two unidentified occupants died.An FAA official told ABC 10News the plane departed North Las Vegas Airport and its end destination was listed as Gillespie Field in San Diego. The plane had reportedly taken off from the North Las Vegas airport at 9:29 a.m. and crashed at 9:38 a.m.CCFD said witnesses reported the plane flying low before hearing a crash after it disappeared from sight.Bruce Langston, who was nearby at the time of the crash, described hearing an "awful" sound and a giant "fireball" when the plane struck the wall of a construction site.The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and FAA are investigating the incident. (KGTV) - Authorities from jurisdictions across California gathered in Sacramento to announce the arrest of a suspect in the decades-long East Area Rapist/Golden State Killer case.Joseph James DeAngelo, 72, was arrested Wednesday in connection with a series of killings, rapes and burglaries that occurred around the state in the 1970s and ‘80s.Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert, flanked by district attorneys from several other California counties, said of the new development in the case, “The answer has always been in Sacramento. We found the needle in the haystack, and it was right here in Sacramento.”Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones told reporters that DeAngelo was taken into custody at his home in Citrus Heights, a city several miles outside of Sacramento. His arrest was the result of an executed search warrant out of Ventura County.Jones said detectives’ hard work and the use of DNA technology “led us to the right road” in identifying DeAngelo as a suspect and his arrest. 1022
