DESCANSO, Calif. (KGTV) - Four people were seriously injured and one person is in custody following a pursuit with Border Patrol agents on Interstate 8 in East San Diego County Tuesday.Border Patrol said a blue Ford Expedition failed to yield to a marked vehicle just before 11 a.m. on I-8 near Buckman Springs Rd. The vehicle continued on, at one point reaching over 100 miles per hour, and lost control as it approached slower moving traffic. The Ford then careened off I-8 near Japatul Valley Rd., rolling down a ravine and landing on its roof.Two passengers, who were unrestrained, were ejected from the vehicle and sustained major injuries. Two other passengers sustained minor to moderate injuries. All four were taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego and Sharp Memorial Hospital.The driver of the car, a 23-year-old U.S. citizen, was uninjured and tried to flee from the crash, Border Patrol said, but he was quickly apprehended and placed in Border Patrol custody.Three of the four passengers are Mexican nationals, according to Border Patrol. DENVER – As Colorado teachers prepare to walk out next Friday to call for higher wages and increased school funding, some state lawmakers are working to make sure any plans to strike don’t go unpunished by introducing a bill in the Senate that could put teachers in jail for speaking out.The bill, SB18-264, would prohibit public school teacher strikes by authorizing school districts to seek an injunction from district court. A failure to comply with the injunction would “constitute contempt of court” and teachers could face not only fines but up to six months in county jail, the bill language reads.The bill also directs school districts to fire teachers on the spot without a proper hearing if they’re found in contempt of court and also bans public school teachers from getting paid “for any day which the public school teacher participates in a strike.”The bill, which was introduced this past Friday, is sponsored by State Rep. Paul Lundeen and Sen. Bob Gardner, both Republicans.Mike Johnston, a Democrat?eyeing the gubernatorial seat in 2018, has spoken out against the bill, calling it a “tactic designed to distract from the challenges facing Colorado’s education system rather than solving them.”“Teachers across the country, from West Virginia and Oklahoma to Arizona and here in Colorado, are speaking up for themselves and their students. DENVER — A Denver dad who witnessed a serious crash involving a pedestrian on Leetsdale Drive Thursday night says he wants to know why two paramedics, in a South Adams County - Northglenn ambulance, ignored his requests to help a young boy injured in that crash."I was heading to Cherry Creek reservoir with my dog," said the witness, who asked to remain anonymous. "The two little boys, one must not have been much over the age of 8, made their way across Leetsdale, several yards west of the Quebec intersection."He said the boys were crossing from north to south and had made it to the island in the middle of the street, and then began walking in front of cars that were stopped at the light.They were almost on the other side, when an eastbound car began approaching in the right turn lane. The boys darted in front of the car. The younger one took the brunt of the impact."He flew 20 yards and lost both of his shoes," the witness said. "I couldn't believe it."The witness added that what happened next was even more unbelievable.He spotted an ambulance waiting at the stoplight around the corner."By the Grace of God, there was a paramedic sitting...in traffic," he told Denver7. The witness said he approached the ambulance and knocked on the window."I told them, 'he's on the road, you've got to go help him,'" he said.But there was no response."I remember thinking they weren't understanding me. There's no reaction. I said, 'you have to go help him,'" he said.The witness, who has a 1-year old son, said he was talking to his wife on the phone and she told him to record the ambulance, so he did.He shared cell phone video of the ambulance, which was in the far-right southbound lane inching its way up to the intersection.After a brief toot of the siren, the ambulance entered the intersection and proceeded southbound without stopping, while the injured boy lay in the street a few yards away."It's sad," the witness said. "It's something that shouldn't happen in the United States."He said he wants to see some accountability.Ambulance Service ReactionKMGH reached out to South Adams County Paramedics-Northglenn Ambulance, a nonprofit service based in Northglenn.Initially, a director said she'd look into the claims, and then called back and said it was under investigation, so she couldn't comment.She cautioned that there "are two sides to every story."When asked about the nonprofit's protocol when paramedics are made aware of an accident outside their normal "coverage" area, the director said she couldn't answer that question while the incident is under investigation.KMGH checked with other paramedic services in metro Denver.A couple of them said they have no formal policy, but would stop and render aid, until local authorities arrived.One spokeswoman said without being there, it's hard to know whether there was a patient in the back of that ambulance, or whether it was on its way to pick one up."If there was a patient inside, the paramedics may not have been able to divert attention from the patient in the ambulance," she said.Serious ConditionDenver Police are still investigating the accident which happened around 6 p.m.They say the young victim remains in serious condition, but is stable. 3330

Data released on Monday by the FBI shows a drop in violent crime in the US in 2019, continuing a trend in recent years.The FBI said that violent crimes in the US dropped 1 percent in 2019 compared to 2018. The improvement was the third straight year of a declining violent crime rate in the US.The FBI added that property crimes in the US dropped 4.5 percent from 2018.The amount of violent crime in the US has dropped significantly so far in the 21st century, per FBI data. In 2000, there were 506 reported instances of violent crimes per 100,000 people. In 2019, that number had dropped to 366 violent crimes per 100,000 people.The FBI has also reported a significant drop in property crimes over the years – for things like thefts and larcenies.“I am encouraged by the great work being done by law enforcement to combat violent crime across the nation,” said FBI Deputy Director Dave Bowdich. “The FBI continues to make clear that violence will not be tolerated, and we are committed to continuing our work with state, local, and tribal partners across the country to confront and deter violence, dismantle criminal organizations and gangs, eradicate drug trafficking, and bring justice to victims.” 1210
