SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld San Diego welcomed two dolphin calves into the world within 12 hours of each other this week.The two bottlenose dolphin calves, born Wednesday at 3:50 p.m. and Thursday at 1:14 a.m., and their mothers are doing well, swimming together and bonding, the theme park said in a release.The dolphins have yet to be named.One of the calves was born to Malibu, a 21-year-old dolphin who gave birth at the park in 2009 to a dolphin named Kali, who remains at the park. The other, 16-year-old Maggie, is becoming a mother for the first time."As with any animal birth, the first few days are critical. SeaWorld veterinarians will monitor the mothers and babies around the clock, documenting respirations and nursing frequency," SeaWorld said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego restaurants are taking extra precautions, and going out of their way to care for the most vulnerable neighbors during the stay at home order.Victor Lopez, owner of El Pollo Grill, said he's delivering free meals to seniors in need. "Today we're actually going to send 10 more right now," Lopez said. They've served about 90 customers in three days. The hit right now is 30 percent, but Lopez said the 37 year old business is focused on community. Across town, D.Z. Akin's is also worried about their customers, "we try between every customer to sanitize ourselves, sanitize the pens, sanitize the counters." Son of the founders, Elan Akin, said he often sees an older crowd.Customers, like Philip McCabe, say they normally see more people. The lunch rush Wednesday mean about 7 people standing in the deli with lots of space in between. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Some San Diego Police Department officers are being isolated as they await test results for coronavirus, according to SDPD Chief David Nisleit.Those officers were exposed to the virus and are currently under isolation, Chief Nisleit told 10News anchor Jim Patton. A police spokesperson added that officers have been self-reporting possible exposure, both on-duty and off-duty. A medical expert then determines if they should be tested. "We're taking great care of them, absolutely," Nisleit added.Precautions are being taken by law enforcement across the county. A spokesperson from Oceanside Police says they're doing more phone or online reports when possible. Dispatch and officers are also asking more questions about cold and flu-like symptoms.A video from the Chula Vista Department tells the public, "We may ask you to wear a mask."Starting Friday, Chula Vista Police will be taking an extra step. A spokesperson says they'll strongly suggest officers wear protective equipment for all interactions with the public closer than six feet. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's shifting real-estate market could mean new opportunities for entry-level home buyers.A new study from realestate.com says the rate of appreciation for homes at the lower third of the price range are appreciating at 2.2 percent annually. That's a large drop off from the 10.4 percent price growth those homes saw from 2017 to 2018. “Those homes, priced in the bottom third of the market, have been appreciating the fastest and have seen the least inventory in recent years and price cuts are becoming more common as the balance between buyers and sellers is trending toward evening out," said Skylar Olsen, director of economic research for Zillow Group, which owns realestate.com "That’s not a huge surprise, as annual home-value appreciation has been well above historic norms for some time, and was due to slow back toward normal.”The typical entry level home in San Diego County is now worth 4,500. That's still a hefty price for San Diego renters who are paying an average of about ,000 a month and struggling to save for a down payment. Still, down payment assistance programs are available through the County and San Diego Housing Commission. Additionally, potential buyers can qualify for an F.H.A. loan with as little as 3.5 percent down. And Veterans can buy homes with nothing down through a V.A. loan.
