SARASOTA Co., Fla. — A brawl between two moms at a school bus stop landed both in the hospital.One of those mothers was Tiffani Cruz. She was recently released from the hospital.“It was self-defense over an incident that made no sense," she said.While North Port Police say it started over an argument about parenting, Cruz claims she and the other mother have had issues before. She says two weeks ago, she confronted that mom for yelling at another child at the bus stop. But Tuesday morning, their verbal arguments went too far.“My heart was racing!” said Eithan Cruz, who is of no relation to Tiffani Cruz. The child and his brother, Bairon Velazquez, witnessed the fight from the back window of their school bus.“Her face was bleeding and stuff,” Eithan said.“I looked away," Bairon said..Cruz admits she hit the other mom with her mug. Police have not identified the other woman. “I went to run and that’s when she picked up the glass, ran at me and stabbed me twice in my arm, once at my wrist and in back of my shoulder," Cruz said.Both parents ended up in the hospital, but paramedics airlifted the other woman to the hospital with a serious cut to her throat.“She got this close to my face nudged me with her nose and when she nudged me with her nose— it was her fist going up so my fist was going up," Cruz said when asked why she felt she acted in self-defense.Sarasota County Schools is offering counselors after several dozen elementary-aged students witnessed the violent fight.“I regret the whole incident, there’s no reason it should have happened. SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Airbnb announced Thursday that it’s banning all parties and events at the listings on its website to comply with limits on gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic.The San Francisco-based company says the party ban applies to all future bookings on Airbnb and it will remain in effect indefinitely until further notice.Additionally, Airbnb says the occupancy at its listings will be capped at 16 people. Though, the company says it’s considering a potential exception process for specialty and traditional hospitality venues, like boutique hotels.“We also understand that 16 is not a magic number, and issues can occur with groups of any size,” wrote the company. “To be clear, we are not sanctioning smaller gatherings with this policy and all community members are expected to comply with local health restrictions on gatherings. We are capping guests at 16 in these large properties as one step amongst several, all designed to mitigate any efforts to misuse an Airbnb for a party.”Airbnb says guests will be informed about its party rules and told that they may be “legally pursued” by the company if they violate the policy.Unauthorized parties have actually always been prohibited at Airbnb listings and the company says 73% of its listings already ban them in their house rules.Over the last year or two, Airbnb has begun imposing stricter limits, starting with a global ban on “party houses,” or listings that create persistent neighborhood nuisance. And when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, a new policy was introduced that required all users to adhere to local coronavirus mandates.“However, in many large jurisdictions, public health mandates on gatherings have changed – and in some places swung back and forth in response to the changing rates of COVID cases – as have regulations on bars, clubs and pubs,” wrote Airbnb. “Some have chosen to take bar and club behavior to homes, sometimes rented through our platform. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Puerto Rico's governor says she will reopen beaches, casinos, gyms and movie theaters across the U.S. territory as officials report a recent drop in COVID-19 cases and deaths that some experts worried would once again spike.The changes announced Thursday will go into effect from Sept. 12 until Oct. 2. Scientists are exploring mysterious “blue holes” that form at the bottom of the ocean off Florida’s Gulf Coast.The blue holes are underwater sinkholes that vary in size, similar to sinkholes you can see on land, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. They are diverse biological communities full of marine life, like corals, sponges, mollusks, sea turtles, sharks, and more.“Underwater sink holes, springs, and caverns are karst (calcium carbonate rock) features that are scattered across Florida’s Gulf continental shelf,” said NOAA.NOAA says little is known about blue holes due to their lack of accessibility and unknown distribution and abundance. Openings can be several hundred feet underwater and many openings are pretty small.“In fact, the first reports of blue holes did not come from scientists or researchers, but actually came from fishermen and recreational divers,” wrote NOAA.Last year, a team of scientists explored one blue hole, called “Amberjack Hole,” about 30 miles off Sarasota’s shoreline. NOAA says the exploration of the hole was the team’s most detailed blue hole investigation to date. Divers and a “benthic lander” were deployed to the bottom, 350 feet down.NOAA says the team collected 17 water samples from just outside the hole down to the bottom and collected four sediment cores at the bottom. They also discovered two dead but intact smalltooth sawfish, an endangered species, at the bottom of the hole.
