Tropical Storm Epsilon has strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane.As of 11 p.m. Tuesday, Epsilon is moving toward the northwest near 13 mph.This general motion is expected to continue tonight, followed by a slightly slower west-northwestward motion on Wednesday.A turn toward the north-northwest is expected on Thursday.On the forecast track, Epsilon is forecast to move closer to Bermuda on Thursday and make its closest approach to the island on Thursday night.Epsilon now has maximum sustained winds near 75 mph with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next day or two.A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Bermuda.In the most active hurricane season on record, in 2005, late-season storms continued late into the year. Tropical Storm Alpha and Hurricane Beta developed in late October. Tropical Storm Gamma, Tropical Storm Delta, and Hurricane Epsilon developed in November. Tropical Storm Zeta developed after the official hurricane season in late December.The last-named storm of the 2020 season was Hurricane Delta. University of Arizona assistant basketball coach Mark Phelps and senior basketball player Keanu Pinder have both been suspended from the team for violating unspecified NCAA rules.Both will miss Friday's game against Northern Arizona University.Phelps's suspension is without pay and will last five games. TUCSON, Ariz. — Lute Olson, a legendary University of Arizona basketball coach who led to the Wildcats to the winningest streak in their history, has died at the age of 85, his family says.Lute Olson was the soul of Tucson. Revered by the community, regarded as one of college basketball's greatest coaches of all-time, Olson brought a sense of pride to Arizona’s basketball program, and to southern Arizona.He led the Wildcats to four final four appearances including a national championship, and an amazing 23 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.Yet the legendary Arizona wildcat basketball coach didn't arrive in Tucson until he was close to fifty years old.Olson was born in North Dakota and began his career coaching high school teams, first in Minnesota, then in California.Olson taught his teams to want more - to reach for a dream - and drive for perfection. He compiled a 24-2 record in his only season at Long Beach State.That was followed by the University of Iowa, where he led the Hawkeyes to the 1980 Final Four.Three years later, Olson surprised the college basketball world, leaving the Big Ten power for an Arizona Wildcat program coming off a 4-24 season.Olson made a bold statement, advising fans in April of 1983 that they should get their tickets now.Just two years later, Arizona was a winner.Olson turned down other college opportunities, saying that Tucson was his home. He would also decline offers from the NBA.“I love coaching college guys because you can just see them grow from kids to young men before they move on,” he said in a 2016 interview.His first Wildcat Final four team came in 1988. Veterinarians are seeing an alarming increase in the number of cases of the canine parvovirus.Nationally, Blue Pearl pet hospitals report a 70 percent increase of the virus compared to statistics collected the previous five years.While an exact reason for the spike has yet to be determined, veterinarians suspect the coronavirus pandemic can shoulder some of the blame.“If people are staying home and have strict stay at home orders, probably vet visits aren’t the first thing on their minds,” said Dr. Lenore Bacek with Blue Pearl. “Financially, some people took a large hit to their normal finances during this time and routine vaccines weren’t a priority.”She added that people may be taking their newly adopted puppies to dog parks before they are fully vaccinated.Parvovirus is highly contagious because it can live on surfaces like grass or blankets for months and years.“Just assume it’s in the environment and don’t take your puppy somewhere other dogs have been,” Dr. Bacek said.Symptoms of the virus include vomiting and diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, decreased appetite, weakness and weight loss.Dogs can’t pass the virus to humans. However, the increase of parvovirus cases could mean other important vaccines are being neglected.“We worry if they are not getting parvo vaccines, are we missing things like rabies vaccines, which could have a public health implication?” Dr. Bacek said.Puppies are most at risk, but the virus can also impact adult dogs. Veterinarians recommend adults receive a booster vaccine every three years.If a dog falls ill, they can face expensive treatment.“With aggressive treatment, hospitalization, IV fluid therapy, supportive care, the survival rate is high, close to 90 percent,” Dr. Bacek said.However, the financial and emotional toll of a dog getting sick can be avoided with proper vaccines.“We want to make sure as the first wave continues and second waves comes, that vets are seen as an important factor in public health,” Dr. Bacek said.KSTU's John Franchi was first to report this story. 2051
