SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A well-known San Diego restaurant plans to close for good this July. Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant will close its Mission Valley restaurant on July 16, 2019, according to paperwork filed by the company. Although no reason was given for the closure, 79 employees are expected to lose their jobs. The layoff notice was filed by the company on June 5 and says, in part, that the company will “continue the employment of all employees through the sixtieth day after the date of this notice, and all employees will be paid your regular wages and benefits through that date.”The brewery and restaurant first opened in 1988 in Palo Alto before expanding in 1999. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Amid rising health care costs, some San Diegans are turning to telehealth appointments. On a Monday afternoon, young Josephine sits in an exam room. She's come down with cold-like symptoms after recovering from enlarged tonsils. So her mom, Josie Ruiz, brought her to their neighborhood clinic, La Maestra Community Health Center in City Heights. For this appointment, one doctor is waiting in the exam room, and another is on a computer screen.Dr. Anthony Magit is an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist and pediatrician at Rady Children's Hospital. As he watches from his office, the clinic's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Javier Rodriguez, conducts an exam. Cameras and camera-equipped scopes feed real-time data to the specialist, who then asks questions. The exam is part of La Maestra's telehealth program, which offers virtual appointments to underserved patients."Before telehealth, my previous appointments ... some of them I had to cancel or reschedule," said Ruiz.Ruiz is a single mom who works full time."This is great because in my case I don't have to request a day off to take her to the hospital, which I can't afford to do," said Ruiz.Most of the patients at this clinic don't own cars. For them, getting to Rady Children's Hospital means hours on buses, which can lead to major issues related to work and child care.Six years ago, doctors at the clinic discovered many referrals to Rady Children's Hospital weren't showing up. That has changed. No-show rates went from about 50% to 13% within two years. Across the county, other hospitals are tuning in to telemedicine, from home appointments for rural patients to consultations with specialists across the country. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An audit released by the San Diego Police Department Thursday showed they had purged 58 names from their registry of gang members. The names are collected in a database known as CalGang. 42 of the records were cleared because they had passed a 5-year purge mark. Four of the people had died and 12 had been removed due to unrevealed “discretionary” reasons. The results were released at a special joint meeting of the Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods Committee and the Commission on Gang Prevention and Intervention. At the meeting, Dr. Rodney Hood, the chair of the gang commission also unveiled their annual report. It revealed, as of March 2017, there were 76 documented gangs in San Diego. Overall, it reports there are 3,815 gang members identified in 2017 compared to 4,052 last year. 849

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — After a bitter primary, voters are getting a clearer picture of who will move on in the race to replace Congressman Duncan Hunter in East County's 50th Congressional District. Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar and Republican Darrell Issa, a former Congressman, are leading the field. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Campa-Najjar had 34 percent of the vote; Issa had 25 percent, former San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio had 21 percent, and State Senator Brian Jones had 11 percent. There are still about 350,000 provisional and mail-in ballots to be counted. It is unclear how many of those would include district voters. RELATED: Campa-Najjar, Issa hold leads in 50th Congressional DistrictHunter resigned in January after pleading guilty to one felony count of campaign fraud. The seat has remained vacant since. On Wednesday, Campa-Najjar and Issa began taking at aim at one another in anticipation of facing off in the November runoff. Campa-Najjar pointed out at that Issa does not live in the 50th Congressional District, and said he was part of an older political establishment. "He's been going around the county trying to find a seat for himself. He fled his own seat and now wants to run in this district. It's not up for grabs, it's not for sale. We're going to vote for someone who is from the district," Campa-Najjar said. Meanwhile, Issa said he is very connected to the 50th District, and has represented swaths of it in the past. Campa-Najjar is pitching a moderate agenda that he says can bring together those who are both pro-choice and pro-life, and those who are pro-and anti-gun rights. When he looked off to the side, he says he spotted the couple in the distance and decided to capture the special moment. “I decided it’s a good memory and they should have it,” Rodriguez said. But when Rodriguez walked over to meet the couple, he says they vanished.
