This comes after the city of La Mesa enacted an Executive Order on Thursday, which allows businesses to use outdoor spaces for dining, displaying products, and other services.Meanwhile, Coronado waived its alcohol prohibition in city parks, just ahead of this weekend's Spreckels Park Outdoor Dining Room event. This is a move to get people to buy local take-out, and picnic outdoors.Coronado also approved gyms to hold classes at Spreckels Park, Bradley Field, and the beach."We feel fortunate that we live in a town where we can just jump out into the park and do yoga," Stephanie Anderson with Island Yoga Coronado said.Tuesday, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer signed an Executive Order waiving permitting requirements for sidewalks and parking lots for restaurants expanding outdoors.On the same day, Chula Vista approved plans to block off car traffic on Third Avenue on weekend evenings. This will help diners expand their businesses onto the entire street, not just on sidewalks and parking lots. The Third Avenue Village Association will discuss details and the start date at a special meeting next Wednesday.On Wednesday, Poway approved its Shared Outside Spaces (SOS) program, which lets houses of worship and gyms to hold activities at city parks. The city began accepting applications Friday morning. The San Diego Hunger Coalition is encouraging San Diegans to take part in the annual CalFresh Challenge to raise awareness about food insecurity. CalFresh public assistance allots .07 daily in food benefits, according to SDHC. The system, known nationally as SNAP, helps those in need but it is insufficient for helping people meet basic needs, SDHC says. During the CalFresh Challenge, participants must spend no more than .35 for five days on all meals, drinks, and snacks. During the week, participants must not accept free food. San Diego Hunger Coalition wants participants to post about the experience on social media with the hashtag #CalFreshChallenge. Participants are also asked to donate to SDHC. 784

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Crowds gathering at Veterans Park in Ocean Beach may face fines if they don't follow the county's public health orders.Tuesday morning, city crews put up orange mesh fencing around the park, but a few hours later, witnesses took pictures of two men cutting the fence down.Residents and business owners have been complaining for weeks about large groups gathering on Wednesday evenings gathered to watch the drum circle and hang out in the park.Mark Winkie is the president of the Ocean Beach Town Council. To fight and end hunger in our county, programs like Feeding San Diego bridge the gap for those facing food insecurity and getting access to donations. "We were faced with so many decisions of its either food or paying the bills," said Gabriela Sanchez. Sanchez, a mom of four with a baby on the way, struggled to put food on the table after her husband got sick. "It was hard to even explain to the kids," Sanchez said. Now, she is getting the help she needs through Feeding San Diego's program in Oceanside. The program sets up at San Luis Rey Elementary school, one of their distribution sites, so the community can get access to free healthy food. "It's been a big difference between eating fruit from the cans to eating the fresh fruit and vegetables," Sanchez said. Donate to Month of a Million MealsAccording to Matthew Jennings, Director of Communications at Oceanside Unified School District, access to fresh, healthy food, will help students succeed in the classroom. "When a child shows up for school in the morning, and their belly isn't hungry and they're not worried about what they are going to each for lunch, students and families are able to focus on their education and on their time together," Jennings said. Gabriela Sanchez says the food has made a positive impact in her kids' lives. "With Ivan and Jacob, we've seen so much improvement. They have actually been able to exceed their reading levels, their math levels. They have been able to concentrate more," Sanchez said.
