EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — A gas leak in the East County forced several businesses to abruptly close Friday, as crews worked to stop the leak. The gas leak occurred North Marshall Ave. and Petree St. at about 12 p.m. when crews with Helix Water District struck a gas pipe while installing a communications line, according to El Cajon Fire Department.A representative with the water district said HWD personnel arrived at the scene after the rupture had occurred and are not responsible for the damage.Crews evacuated a nearby shopping center, where customers at the Black Bear Diner were given five minutes to leave the area. The leak also forced a nearby Rock Church and school to evacuate. For four hours, several blocks were closed to motorists and MTS trolley and bus service were impacted in the area.SDG&E has since stopped the leak by pinching off a section of the pipe in another area. Crews plan to take an additional two hours to repair the damged section of the gas line.No injuries were reported. 1017
During an appearance on Fox News on Monday evening, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, said he's confident that Republicans have enough votes to confirm a President Donald Trump's Supreme Court justice nominee."We've got the votes to confirm Justice Ginsburg's replacement before the election," Graham told Sean Hannity on Monday. "We're going to move forward in the committee, we're going to report the nomination out of the committee to the floor of the United States Senate so we can vote before the election. Now, that's the constitutional process."The Republican caucus currently holds a 53-47 voting edge over Democrats. So far, two Republican senators — Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski — have said they will not vote for Trump's nominee, saying that whoever wins the 2020 presidential election should select the new justice. Should a 50-50 tie occur, Vice President Mike Pence would break the tie and likely vote to confirm Trump's nominee.Graham is the head of the Senate Judiciary Committee and will run the confirmation hearings for Trump's nominee. He was also the head of that committee in 2018 when Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed amid allegations of sexual assault.Protesters gathered at the homes of Graham and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Monday to call for a delay in the nomination process. Graham said the protests would not sway his decision."After Kavanaugh, everything changed with me," Graham told Fox News. "They are not going to intimidate me, [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell, or anybody else." 1574
Don't call it a comeback!Honestly, don't call it a comeback. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still retired from the sport of boxing – undefeated record intact. The rumors of his impending UFC debut, on the other hand, are growing and it's a step into an entirely different combat sport. Many people are doubting Mayweather's ability to compete in the UFC, or MMA in general, but all indications are that he's supremely confident. Is there any way that a 40-year-old Mayweather can beat a 30-year-old Conor McGregor in MMA? No.That doesn't mean that there aren't other fighters that'll line up to challenge the self-proclaimed T.B.E (The Best Ever) and there's not like there isn't a precedent for the inexperienced jumping straight into the Octagon. [Cough] C.M. Punk [cough].Floyd Mayweather Sr. recently voiced his opinion on Mayweather Jr. trying his hand at MMA and his answer was shocking, to say the least.“The way I see it, I have to believe that this is where it’s going. The way it looks, I think so,” said Mayweather Sr."As his trainer, no, as his father, no. I want him to have all the money he’s got. The money he’s got, he’s got enough money. Look here, it’s crazy money, man jumping up. He’s his own man though, that’s one thing about him.”Personal feelings aside, Mayweather Sr. did give an honest assessment of Jr.'s chances in the UFC.“I’m gonna tell you the truth about it, I think he can win a few fights but I think it’s best to leave it alone. You can do your own thing but you’re in somebody else’s playground now and holes and stuff is in there. You just can’t do that. Don’t get me wrong, I believe he can beat some of them fighters like the same as he did with the other guy but it ain’t worth it. Any time you did what he's done did, there ain’t no other way he can go right now but backward. That’s the only way he can go right now.”At the end of the day, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is all about money and making more of it. If the UFC can drum up enough money to partner with Mayweather and offer a comparable opponent, [cough] C.M. Punk [cough], then it's far from impossible. At one time people scoffed at McGregor jumping into the boxing ring to challenge an undefeated Floyd Mayweather... We know how that story ended. 2241
DUNMORE, Pa. (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden proposed a sweeping new use of the federal government's regulatory and spending power to bolster U.S. manufacturing and technology firms.Biden wants a 0 billion, four-year increase in government purchasing of U.S.-based goods and services plus 0 billion in new research and development in U.S. technology concerns. It calls for such investments before negotiating any new international trade deals.Biden also proposes tightening current "Buy American" laws that are intended to benefit U.S. firms but can be easily circumvented by government agencies. The speech was an attempt for Biden to position his campaign to attack President Donald Trump on the economy. Biden slammed Trump on his administration's handling of the coronavirus, which led to historic levels of unemployment earlier this year. Biden also claimed that Trump has placed a disproportionate amount of focus on the stock market and not on the economy as a whole.Biden discussed the proposals at a metal works concern in Dunmore, Pennsylvania. 1085
