A convicted felon was arrested Friday morning after he broke into a random apartment and was discovered sleeping on a Rittman couple's couch, police said.Eric Branhan, 36, is charged with aggravated burglary.Police said Branham crawled through a window, busted some blinds and entered the apartment. He ate several pieces of candy from an Easter basket and then fell asleep on a living room couch.The couple who lives there, Jaclyn Fortner and Derek Jenkin, made the creepy discovery just after 6 a.m. local time."We kept saying like, 'Who are you? What are you doing?' And, no response, Fortner said.Jenkin continued to scream at the man while on the phone with a 911 operator."Get out of here! Let's go! Come on!"Police said Branham left the apartment but lingered around the complex and was arrested.Officers found two knives and prescription medication on the suspect."It's kind of scary, especially thinking what's out there, so he could have woke up angry and like escalated the situation," Fortney said.According to state records, Branham has spent time in prison for forgery, possession of drugs, illegal possession of drugs and burglary.Branham was on post release control following his release from prison in 2017.Rittman is located in northeast Ohio, about an hour south of Cleveland.   1335

A dire warning from the National Weather Service has forced an evacuation around the College Lake Dam in Lynchburg, Virginia.A flash flood warning issued Thursday night by the NWS reports "if a complete failure of the dam occurs, the water depth at Lynchburg could exceed 17 feet in 7 minutes." The area impacted would be the city of Lynchburg, which is one mile downstream from the dam.An updated report issued just after midnight by the NWS said the dam has not failed, and is being closely monitored by emergency personnel for any signs of structural failure."Lynchburg Water Resources Department reported that 4 to 6 inches of heavy rain earlier in the evening caused College Lake to fill beyond its capacity.Piper Van dePerre, with the Lynchburg Department of Emergency Services, told CNN affiliate WDBJ that crews are working with a list of 124 residences that need to be evacuated because of the imminent threat of a dam break. It's not certain if all the structures are occupied along the rain swollen Blackwater Creek.The University of Lynchburg, which is nearby, says it has not ordered an evacuation because it is not downstream of the dam, according to affiliate WSLS.The CNN Weather Center said there a forecast of 1-3 inches of rain through Friday evening and that rain hasn't been above average, but the runoff is a contributor to the area flooding.The-CNN-Wire 1384

A man allegedly cut through a fence to escape a coronavirus isolation facility Friday in New Zealand. Officials say the man, only described as being in his 50s, apparently went to a liquor store before returning on his own to the facility.The man is now in police custody and is expected to appear in court, according to a statement from New Zealand Air Commodore Darryn Webb, Head of Managed Isolation and Quarantine.He said investigators believe the man cut through fence ties to break out of the facility around 6:30 p.m. Thursday night, then returned about 30 minutes later. Authorities are checking CCTV footage to confirm the man’s movements during that time. It happened in the town of Hamilton, on the North Island of New Zealand.It appears the man visited a liquor store. Police have talked to the store, and no one entered it this morning until health officials confirmed it was safe to do so.“Managed isolation is a critical part in our defence against COVID-19, and it is up to each and every person entering this country to play their part and abide by the law,” Webb said.The man who escaped arrived from Sydney on July 1, and their first coronavirus test came back negative, according to Webb. However, he still must remain in isolation. Webb believes the health risk from this incident is very low.“We take any breach of the COVID-19 rules very seriously. Wilfully leaving our facilities will not be tolerated, and the appropriate action will be taken,” Webb said.This comes just two days after another man escaped from a separate isolation facility in Auckland. This man, age 32, has tested positive for coronavirus. A Lake Worth family’s home was defaced and targeted on the night of the Florida primary because of their politics, and now they worry what might happen next.Jeanne and Michael Carroll came home Tuesday night to find profanity and an anti-Trump message spray-painted on their home.“We should have freedom of speech, freedom to do whatever we want on our own property,” said Jeanne Carroll, who believes her home was targeted because of the Trump flag flying outside.In the 400 block of S K Street in Lake Worth, pride of country is on full display with American flags flapping in the wind. But the Carroll’s home is the only one with a Trump flag. It's been outside for about eight months without any problems, until Tuesday night."I feel extremely violated," Carroll said.The Carrolls went out to dinner Tuesday, and when they came home they found the words "F*** Trump" spray-painted underneath their front window near the flag."I just don't understand why anyone would take the chance of endangering themselves and coming onto someone else's property just because of a political flag," she said.Less than 24 hours later, Michael Carroll's car was also spray painted. It was tagged with the same anti-Trump message and the letter X."People are so just on opposite sides and it's so divided," neighbor PJ Mahoney said.Mahoney has a sign on her fence supporting a Republican for Governor, and she is thankful no one saw a Trump sign hanging on her house.
