(KGTV) - An Imperial Beach man said he was sucker punched during a peaceful protest in Imperial Beach on Sunday.Marcus Boyd was one of the people at the rally, which started at Veteran's Park. The attack happened when the group got to the beach, Boyd said."We were shouted at by three or four individuals, telling us to go home," Boyd said. "They decided to start throwing eggs at us. I crossed the street just to get a good image of the perpetrators."That's when Boyd said he was hit from behind. He still has a sore neck and headache. He said emotionally, it has been hard to watch the video. "He really tried to hurt me," Boyd said. Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina tweeted that he's called on the San Diego Sheriff's Department to "investigate the violent assault on peaceful protestors" that occurred at the Imperial Beach Pier Plaza on Sunday afternoon. Mayor Pro Tem Paloma Aguirre added that she does not want residents to feel unsafe "for exercising their First Amendment rights."According to a Sheriff's spokesman, the incident occurred at about 3 p.m. on Sunday. The protester reported that he had been punched by another man after a verbal confrontation. The suspect ran away with two men, but deputies later made contact with the two individuals, SDSO added.SDSO said the suspect was eventually contacted, but could not be identified by the victim or other witnesses. But if you look hard enough - something else is trying to take over.Limebike is a tech company that deals in two wheels.It's been a busy week for Colin McMahon, a manager at Limebike."On Friday we started rolling them out through all the weekend and now we are up to 200 bikes through operations," McMahon said.Limebike's mobile app is launching in Imperial Beach, its eighth city."A lot of curiosity so almost every time we brought a bike out of the truck people were asking what is this bike how does it work," McMahon said.Riders download the app, enter their credit card number and scan the back of the bike they want to ride.Even 4th grader, Jacquin Hallaway, can figure it out."I think it's fun that you can like rent a bike," Hallaway said.Unfortunately, not everyone has been behaving with the bikes.Someone in Seattle stuck one on a power pole but don't count out San Diego's shenanigans."There was one that was thrown off the pier. In California’s Coachella Valley, people are concerned about catching the novel coronavirus.“They’re scared; they’re freaking out,” said Jorge Garcia, who contracted the virus. “I was scared at first because you hear a lot of stories that people don’t make it, they get really sick.” A lot of people in the desert community, located about two hours east of Los Angeles, are getting sick.Local county health officials report more than 36,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the area and more than 680 deaths.Now, health experts say there aren't enough doctors and nurses to handle the spike in cases.“At one point we had over 90 patients in the hospital with COVID,” said Alan Williamson, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Eisenhower Health in Rancho Mirage, Ca. “I think we had about three beds available at our peak.”Williamson says his staff is overworked and pushed to its limits.
