SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Gas prices continue to soar in Southern California, rising nearly two cents more Monday. According to figures from AAA, the price for a gallon of gas gone up more than 50 cents in less than a month. AAA also says that the price has risen for 21 consecutive days and 27 of the last 28 days in San Diego County. California's gas tax is also set to increase by 5.6 cents on July 1, 2019. Meanwhile, the national average for a gallon of gas Monday was .74.AAA says a series of refinery issues reduced gas supplies.Bloomberg Phillips 66 refinery in Los Angeles, and Chevron Corp.'s El Segundo plants all experienced shut downs and stalls in oil production due to various problems. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Developers behind Horton Plaza's planned redevelopment have reached a deal with Macy's, allowing the project to continue.Stockdale Capital Partners announced the agreement reached with Macy's to allow the downtown San Diego project to move forward. The massive overhaul will see the nearly vacant mall turned into a mixed-use tech campus.Terms of the deal were not disclosed. In October 2019, Macy's filed a lawsuit to stop Stockdale Capital Partners' project. The San Diego City Council unanimously approved reducing Horton Plaza's previous retail deed restriction and the project in May 2019, with the project slated for completion in 2021.“We are making a long term commitment to downtown San Diego and plan to quickly deliver The Campus at Horton as an urban hub for San Diegans to gather and a catalyst for thousands of high paying tech jobs, defining the future of downtown,” Steven Yari, managing partner at Stockdale Capital Partners, said in a release.The developer envisions the 700,000-square-foot campus will become home to about 3,000 to 4,000 new jobs. 1372

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Family and supporters of Jonathan Coronel stood at the San Diego County Administration Center Friday, demanding justice for the past three years without their loved one.Coronel was shot 16 times by San Diego Sheriff's Deputy Christopher Villanueva in Vista July of 2017."It has been three years of trauma and dehumanization," Coronel's Cousin Rocio Zamora said.Zamora urged defunding the Sheriff's Department, and transferring that money to underserved communities, "to transform them to community empowerment zones. The safest communities don't have the most cops they have the most resources."She also demanded police officers be taken out of schools and replaced with counselors.These demands shouted at a time when law enforcement is under the microscope.Law enforcement said Coronel was a documented gang member with a warrant.The morning Coronel died law enforcement said he ran from deputies. Once Villanueva caught up to Coronel, law enforcement said Coronel concealed his hand in his shirt, forcing Villanueva to fire.A witness said Coronel took off his shirt to show he was unarmed.Law enforcement confirmed Coronel was unarmed at the time of his death."Deputy Christopher Villanueva is the most dangerous gang member in Vista. He is the one who shot Sergio Weick 28 plus times," Zamora said.Sergio Weick, 33, was shot and killed August of 2016 by Villanueva.Law enforcement said he was running from deputies, had knives, and threatened deputies, forcing Villanueva to shoot. Law enforcement said he was also a documented gang member with a warrant.Back on the steps of the county administration building, Zamora said they are not anywhere near ending their fight for justice, "three years and we are only growing bigger, we are only getting louder." 1787

San Diego ranked third on the list of housing markets seeing the biggest slowdown. San Jose and San Francisco, two markets also known for their high costs of living, places first and second on the list The report shows that conditions in San Diego’s market are favoring buyers more than they did a year ago. RELATED: Home prices rise, sales plungeMore than 20 percent of homes for sale in America’s Finest City had a price cut in January of 2019, compared with only 12.4 percent of homes that saw a cut in January of 2018. Of the homes that have sold, 95.7 percent sell for their listing price. At this time last year, 97.7 percent of homes sold for their list price. The amount of time it takes to sell homes is also on the rise. In 2018, homes sold in 60 days, including time to close, Zillow reports. So far this year, homes are selling in 75 days. Those buyers looking in cooling markets will likely welcome the relief, although the entry price is still high.
