MACAO, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Up to 123 candidates from various civil groups in Macao to participate in the 4th Legislative Assembly Election of the Special Administrative Region (SAR) will vie for 12 directly-elected seats in the Assembly, the Macao Post Daily reported on Tuesday.     A total of 16 groups completed their registration procedures over the past six weeks for joining the SAR's direct legislative election which was scheduled to take place on September 20, according to the daily.     The SAR's legislature has 29 seats, 12 of which are directly elected and 10 indirectly elected while the rest will be appointed by the SAR's chief executive.     Registered candidacy commissions could submit their political manifestoes and lists of candidates to the authorities before Monday. In accordance with the law, the commissions need to acquire a minimum of 300 endorsements from registered voters to be accepted as a legitimate competitor in the upcoming election.     The officially verified lists of the candidates will be announced on July 28 at the earliest.

BEIJING, May 10 (Xinhua) -- China and Kuwait signed five agreements here on Sunday in an effort to further the bilateral relations to a higher level.     The agreements covered fields of energy, finance, telecommunication, transportation and education, according a press release from the Chinese Foreign Ministry. However, the press release does not give details about the agreements, only emphasizing they are among the positive steps to push foreword the bilateral relations.     Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah witnessed the signing ceremony after they conferred on the bilateral ties and other issues of common concern. BEIJING, June 29 (Xinhua) -- China raised gasoline and diesel prices by 600 yuan (about 87.8 U.S. dollars) per tonne, starting zero o'clock Tuesday.     The increase raised the price for gasoline by about 0.45 yuan per liter, or 8.6 percent, and the price of diesel by about 0.51 yuan per liter, or 9.6 percent, said the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in a statement on its Web site.     It was the third oil price adjustment this year. On May 31, the NDRC raised the pump prices of gasoline and diesel by 400 yuan per tonne, or 7 percent and 8 percent, respectively.     The adjustment was in response to "recent international oil price fluctuation" under the country's new fuel pricing mechanism, as international crude prices kept rising, said the statement.     According to the new mechanism, China's domestic prices are to be "indirectly linked" to global crude prices "in a controlled manner."     Under the pricing mechanism, China would consider changing benchmark retail prices of oil products when the international crude price rises or falls by a daily average of 4 percent over 22working days in a row.     Oil prices settled at 69.16 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange Friday, registering a 4.2 percent rise from the price of 66.31 dollars a barrel when the last adjustment took place on May 31.

L'AQUILA, July 9 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama said on Thursday that he was looking forward to visiting China later this year.     Obama made the remarks when meeting with Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo, who was here to attend the leaders' meeting of the Group of Eight (G8) and five leading emerging economies (G5) on behalf of Chinese President Hu Jintao.     During the meeting, Obama said the U.S. side attached importance to the U.S.-China relations, and he hoped that the upcoming U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue could generate fruitful results, according to a press release issued by the Chinese delegation.     It is important for the United States and China to enhance cooperation on major international issues, Obama said, adding that it benefits both countries and both people.     The two also exchanged views on bilateral relations and other major international and regional issues, said the press release.     Dai conveyed Hu's greetings to Obama while Obama asked Dai to pass on his greetings and good wishes to Hu.     Hu cut short his stay in Italy and skipped the G8 meeting due to the situation in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. He returned to Beijing Wednesday.
