CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Chula Vista Police officers and San Diego County Sheriff's deputies surrounded a South Bay home Friday in a SWAT standoff.San Diego Sheriff's deputies stopped a vehicle near Orange Avenue and Interstate 805 in Chula Vista for a vehicle violation at about 12 p.m., according to SDSO. Deputies were working a multi-agency narcotics operation when the stop occurred.A passenger, identified as Fernando Salas, fled the vehicle shortly after the stop was initiated. Salas resisted deputies' attempted to detain him, SDSO said, resulting in minor injuries to one deputy.Salas fled into a home in the 1400 block of Camellia Court, prompting a standoff.The occupants of the home forced Salas to surrender and he was taken into custody by deputies on charges of resisting a deputy, according to SDSO. The driver of the stopped vehicle, identified as Daniel Garcia, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of metal knuckles.A person inside the home, identified as Angel Garcia, was also arrested for felony child endangerment for "his actions during the incident," according to SDSO.Several individuals ran from the home. Officers and deputies handcuffed as many as 12 people and placed them in U.S. Border Patrol or Sheriff's department vehicles. A child and dog were also removed from the home.Only Salas, Daniel Garcia, and Angel Garcia were arrested though, SDSO said.Sheriff's deputies and Chula Vista Police officers cleared the scene around 3 p.m. but didn't brief media on the situation before leaving. 1621

(KGTV) — Upstairs in the visiting room he teared up saying this was a big misunderstanding.Thomas Escajeda, 61, is accused of threatening St. Rose of Lima church and a school at 293 H St. Tuesday, according to Chula Vista Police. Police says he threatened to harm parishioners attending a mass for All Saints Day on Thursday at 8 a.m.Escajeda, however, told 10News from jail Thursday that the accusations are a mistake. Escajeda, who has attended the church for a year, said he called the church with the idea to sell hot chocolate, coffee and maybe some donuts to warm the congregation up during the cold morning hours before service.He says it was the phrase, "I'd make a killing," that sent the person on the other end into a panic.RELATED: Chula Vista church receives threat against All Saints Day massThe mass and Thursday classes were canceled despite the arrest.If Escajeda did say those words the timing couldn't have been worse with the synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh last Saturday.Thursday, he had one message — directed to his wife and stepdaughter."I miss them every day, even though I've been here for a day and a half, basically think before you speak," Escajeda said.10News has reached out to the church to verify Escajeda's story. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating after a deadly crash in the South Bay early Sunday morning. According to police, the single-car crash happened on the 100 block of Telegraph Canyon Road just after 3:45 a.m. Chula Vista Police say a man was driving along the road when he veered to the left and struck two trees in the center median, causing major damage to the vehicle. RELATED: Fire breaks out inside San Diego shopping centerWhen officers arrived on scene, the vehicle was reportedly on fire with the man trapped inside. The driver was taken to the hospital with major injuries where he later died. According to police, the driver didn’t display any signs of being under the influence, but speed may have been a factor. 752
