LA MESA (KGTV) -- A man who mistook his gas for the brakes crashed into the side of the Marque Urgent Care Wednesday.Police say the man was driving his SUV on Lake Murray Boulevard near Dallas Street when he hit the gas instead of braking.The vehicle then struck a tree, hit the Marque Urgent Care, taking out two load-bearing pillars, knocked over two handicapped parking signs and eventually became lodged in an iron railing at a barbecue restaurant.Following the crash, the urgent care facility was evacuated and closed.The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with cuts. 603

Laura Ingraham will leave Fox News's airwaves next week for a vacation.The anchor made the announcement when she signed off her show Friday evening, which capped a week of controversy in which she saw more than a dozen advertisers flee her show."A blessed Good Friday and Passover to all of you," Ingraham said. Latinos are more likely to have to stay in the hospital and are also more likely to die from coronavirus, according to experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).A number of factors contribute to a higher risk, including language barriers and not receiving important information in their native language.That's why communities across the country are focusing on finding bilingual contact tracers.Community Care of North Carolina has a team of them.“We do try to find individuals that match the community, because that's what builds the trust, and people are more willing to talk to people that are like them, and their community,” said Christina Page with Community Care of North Carolina. “So, we try really hard to try to find bilingual individuals who can go out into the community.”Not only are people in the Latino community more willing to speak to a contact tracer, it's also easier to speak about their own health.“It is hard for the community to communicate through interpreters and that is a barrier for trust. It is easy for somebody, if you are talking in your language, to connect and express how you are feeling and what are the problems that you have,” said Wendy Pascual with Community Care North Carolina.Contact tracers aren't just finding people who have been exposed to coronavirus. They're often giving people information they had not received before and also connecting families with resources that help them get food and pay for utilities.There's also need for contact tracers who speak other languages, but the biggest need is for people who speak Spanish. 1609

That’s the eye-raising message from the World Health Organization as COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the globe.“There’s no better way to convey trust. No better way to convey camaraderie and humanity," said Dave Sylvester.Sylvester is what you may call a prolific hugger, traveling across the country and around the world, helping people in need, like buying dinner for essential workers and volunteering.“I am the hug man. I am the human high-five. I am all of that stuff,” he said.He’s on his way to Las Vegas where he held a personal record of more than 1,300 hugs back in 2017. But the pandemic has changed his routine due to social distancing.“I have gone from an average of 47 hugs and high fives a day to 9 hugs and high fives…since March,” he said.This comes as the WHO Monday asked people not to hug to prevent spreading COVID-19, especially in places like the U.S. where cases are spiking.“It’s a horrible thing to think that we would be here as the World Health Organization saying to people, don’t hug each other. It’s terrible, but that is the brutal reality in places like the United States right now,” Dr. Michael Ryan, executive director of the health emergencies program with the WHO.Psychologists say hugs can be great for mental health as it releases hormones that help with empathy and trust. While it’s not as good as hugging a real person or your pets, they say you might try hugging your pillow, or even a stuffed animal.“Don’t discount one of the secondary methods until you’ve tried it,” Jessica Shearin, a local psychologist, said.Sylvester says it’s unfortunate to not hug as much but says that’s not stopping him from meeting others.“We understood the severity of everything that’s going on and we just shared a smile.
