SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - When Major League Baseball starts its season in empty stadiums, a local company will be the supplying crowd noise - from a video game.At the Padres exhibition game at Petco Park Monday, amid the empty stands, there was the distinct sound of a crowd."Our goal is to help create the most authentic experience we can during these times," said Ramone Russell, Communications and Brand Strategist at San Diego Studio, a branch of Sony Interactive Entertainment.The Sorrento Valley-based San Diego Studio, the creators of MLB's official video game, MLB The Show 20, were tasked with filling up the silence of the ballparks by calling on a large collection of real sounds."We've been going to games for the last 10 years, so we have a giant catalog of audio," said Russell.The catalog contains reactions to just about any kind of play, from a routine play to a home run blast. Each reaction has been digitally remastered for the stadium setting. League officials hoping those sounds will make players feel more comfortable."Baseball players are not used to competing in empty stadiums ... just hoping to providing a normalcy for them," said Russell.Stadium sound engineers for each home team will have access to 75 different effects and reactions."Every single major league baseball team will be able to watch the game in real time and slide those events and reactions up and down, so it sounds authentic," said Russell.Baseball is hoping the crowd noise, along with walk-up music, stadium announcers and in-stadium video, will replicate the in-game experience as much as possible.Many of the teams, including the Padres, will also have cardboard cutouts of fans in some parts of the stadium. 1712

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two new charges have been filed in the case against a La Jolla restaurant owner accused of sexually assaulting multiple women.Authorities say five victims have now come forward claiming Daniel Dorado, 59, sexually assaulted them.The fifth victim came forward after last week’s arraignment, telling the San Diego Police Department about an incident that happened in 2014.RELATED: La Jolla restaurant owner accused of sexual assault makes first court appearance?Prosecutors say the assaults took place over a nine-year period beginning in 2009 and ending in January of 2018.Dorado pleaded not guilty earlier in April to 14 counts brought against him, including rape of an unconscious person.RELATED: Woman claims she was drugged during job interviewDorado was arrested in March. One of his accusers claimed she was drugged and raped by Dorado three years ago at his Bird Rock-area restaurant Voce del Mare.Prosecutors in the case say two victims were sexually assaulted at the restaurant while three others were assaulted elsewhere. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two people spotted by police smashing a window at a Pacific Beach Wendy’s restaurant were arrested after leading officers on a chase.The incident unfolded at around 1:15 a.m. at the fast food restaurant on 1621 Grand Ave., according to San Diego police.Officers were in the area when they saw two people smash a window at the eatery. When police tried to make contact with them, they got into a pickup truck and drove away.The truck reached speeds of up to 100 MPH as it led police on a pursuit towards Interstate 8.Police’s ABLE helicopter helped ground units track the truck into the Midway District, and as the vehicle tried to make a left turn on Rosecrans Street, it crashed into the center divider.The truck then entered a nearby strip mall and came to a stop. The two occupants got out, but officers arrived and took them into custody.Police are trying to determine if the window smash was part of a burglary attempt or an act of vandalism. 975

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two competing plans are on the table to redevelop the Tailgate Lot a block from Petco Park into a mixed-use area with park space, retail and office, and housing.Wednesday San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer will announce the winning proposal to redevelop a portion of downtown’s East Village Quarter.The Tailgate Lot property includes 15 parcels of land, or about 5.25 net acres, between K Street and Imperial Avenue and 12th Ave. and 14th St.One of the plans was developed by Brookfield Properties and the other between the San Diego Padres, Tishman Speyer, and Ascendent Capital. Both plans call for a combination of office, retail, and residential space and open park space and parking.Brookfield Properties' plan calls for about 1.2 million square feet of mixed-use office and retail space, about 1,200 residential units, and 1.1 acres of park and community space. The plan also highlights developing a tailgate park, "bazaar" marketplace, and a gateway to public transit.The plan by the Padres, Tishman Speyer, and Ascendent Capital also features about 1.35 million square feet of office space, 612 market rate and affordable housing units, 236,000 square feet of open space, and 1,600-space parking garage for games and ballpark events.The parking garage would also include a multi-use field on the roof for recreational activities. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With San Diego County back in the purple tier, religious gatherings have to move back outdoors.The first Sunday back in California’s most restrictive tier and Rock Church held five outdoor services around the county, but this is not new for them. The megachurch moved to live streaming of services at the beginning of the pandemic, then added in outdoor services about six weeks ago.In the red tier, religious services could hold indoor services at 25% capacity or 100 people, whichever was fewer. Point Loma’s Pastor Travis Gibson said during this time, they had the option to move outdoors, but with 7,000 people attending Point Loma’s services alone, it wasn’t worth it.“One hundred people is not even the volunteers so this is the best option,” he said, standing outside after an outdoor service.RELATED: San Diego houses of worship told to move services outside by SaturdayHe said they have anywhere from 50,000 to 75,000 people watching their live streamed services every week, with only about 1,000 people coming to this new outside setup, but they’re happy to be able to give different worship options to their members.“There are so many ways to worship God.
