There's some misunderstanding about medical exemptions to wearing masks.A legal expert tells us the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) makes it so businesses must make reasonable accommodations to everyone. The key word there is reasonable.“The problem with what's going on right now and some of the things that have been going around the internet, is that the advice, kind of spurious advice that's being put forth is to use the provision for reasonable accommodation as a sword rather than as a shield,” said David Tarrien, an associate professor at WMU-Cooley Law School.Tarrien says the conditions that qualify as a mask exemption have a smaller scope than many realize. For example, he says asthma patients likely do not fall under that scope. But later stages of pulmonary respiratory disease, emphysema, or a serious mobility issue can be "legitimate" reasons.Furthermore, you could face repercussions for lying.“If they're claiming that they have a disability and they don't have a disability, if that is found out, then there are criminal and civil penalties for that,” said Tarrien. As for privacy concerns, Tarrien says store employees are allowed to ask customers why they're not wearing a mask. If you refuse to answer, they may refuse entry.Even if you give a legitimate reason to not wear a mask, you may still be refused entry. That's because the ADA does not apply if there's a “direct threat” to someone's health or safety.Tarrien says HIPPA privacy laws also do not apply in this kind of situation. That only protects your information from being shared inappropriately among medical facilities. 1623

They say when life gives you lemons... make lemonade. Now one Cheektowaga, New York girl is using the lemonade she makes to buy happiness for other children. Eight year-old Abby Jacques was devastated when she found out someone stole her brand new bike from her home on Cleveland Drive, so she decided to take action. She set up a lemonade stand to raise money for a new bike. Word about what happened to Abby spread on social media. After Erie County Comptroller, Stefan Mychajliw posted a photo on Facebook, the community pitched in to help Abby get a new set of wheels.Mychajliw and Howard Cadmus, owner of Sweet Jenny's in Williamsville, split the cost of a new bike. You can still find Abby outside of her home selling lemonade, but now to help others. All of Abby's future lemonade sales will be given to children in need of bikes and helmets at the Seneca Babcock Community Center. For those looking to support Abby, a PayPal account has been set up.  1007

Thirteen days before the 2020 presidential election, former President Barack Obama arrived on the campaign trail in the Keystone State of Pennsylvania on Wednesday to lend a hand to his former Vice President Joe Biden. The stalwart and arguably most popular figure of the Democratic Party is hoping to lend his esteem among Democrats to push them to the polls for Biden. Opinion polls are showing a slight lead for Biden in Pennsylvania, and the state could end up being the keystone to reaching 270 Electoral College votes.Obama delivered a fiery rebuke of President Donald Trump, going after his leadership amid the coroanvirus pandemic, and his plans to eliminate the Affordable Care Act. "Where is this great plan to replace Obamacare? They’ve had 10 years to do it. There is no plan," Obama said. Pennsylvania played an important role in 2016 in sending Trump to the White House; Trump won the state by .6%. Trump was the first Republican presidential candidate to win the state since 1988, but the state has been hotly contested in tight elections. In 2004, John Kerry won Pennsylvania by just 2%, while Al Gore won the state by 4% in 2000.The former president had approval ratings well above those of Biden and Trump when he left office. In January 2017, Obama had a 59% approval rating nationally, according to Gallup. A year later, Gallup conducted a retrospective job approval rating, which gave him a 63% approval rating. By comparison, Trump has a 43% approval rating, according to Gallup; Biden has a 46% favorability rating.Due to the coronavirus, Wednesday’s rally was a drive-in, with supporters socially distanced.Joining Obama was a number of prominent Philadelphia-area Democrats, including Gov. Tom Wolf.Obama’s visit to Philadelphia comes less than 24 hours following Trump’s stop in Erie, Pennsylvania. The Biden campaign announced late Wednesday evening that Obama will once again be back on the campaign trail on Saturday with a visit to Miami. While Biden took the day from the campaign trail to prepare for Thursday's debate, Trump campaigned in North Carolina. 2093

The year 2020 was unlike any other, with so much uncertainty and new challenges. The world responded by asking “why”, according to the top global Google searches this year released this week. The search platform says “why” questions were searched more in 2020 than in any other year. With questions like “why can’t I sleep,” “why social distancing,” and “why is it called COVID-19.”Google says “insomnia” was searched globally more in 2020 than ever before. Here in the U.S., the uncertainty of the election, coronavirus and the economy drove a lot of the search inquiries. Google separated results based on general topics in their annual report. The top five news-related searches were “election results,” “coronavirus,” “stimulus checks,” “unemployment,” and “Iran,” with “stock market” and “murder hornet” also making the top ten.And people wanted more information, with questions like “coronavirus symptoms,” “COVID-19 testing sites near me,” and sarching the definitions of “pandemic,” “Juneteenth,” and “asymptomatic.”Americans also went to Google to find how to keep themselves busy during the coronavirus pandemic, with queries like “recipes for Sourdough bread,” “how to cut men’s hair at home,” “dating during coronavirus,” “how to make a mask,” “where to buy toilet paper,” and searches for “virtual field trips” and “virtual museum tours.”Joe Biden was the top person Americans typed into Google search, followed by Kim Jong Un, Kamala Harris, Jacob Blake and Ryan Newman.Searches for Tom Hanks and Kobe Bryant were also high on Google’s list; Hanks contracted COVID-19 earlier this year and Bryant died tragically in a helicopter crash in January.People were also moved to help. Searches for “how to help Black Lives Matter,” “how to help during coronavirus,” “how to donate blood,” and “how to help someone having a panic attack” were four of the top “how to” inquiries on Google search. 1907
