PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) — Authorities say a police officer has been fatally shot and another was injured in an exchange of gunfire at an Arkansas hotel. Pine Bluff Chief Kelvin Sergeant says Officer Kevin Collins was killed in the shooting Monday afternoon at the EconoLodge in Pine Bluff, about 40 miles southeast of Little Rock. Lt. Ralph Isaac was also injured in the shooting and is in stable condition. Police say the shooting involved three officers and one suspect. Authorities have provided no details about the suspect or investigation, including whether any arrests have been made. Collins was with the department for five years. 645

(KGTV) - A 72-year-old man died Friday night after being struck by a semi-truck trailer. San Diego police say the man had pulled off the 905 freeway at La Media Dr. to fix a broken spark plug on his 1980 Honda motorcycle. He was working on the bike when the big rig exited the 905 onto La Media heading east. The driver missed the motorcyclist with the cab but clipped him with the back tires of the trailer, dragging the body for several feet according to investigators. The man was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the semi-truck stopped at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. Police say he could face a misdemeanor charge of involuntary manslaughter. 744

Pala Mesa, CA (KGTV) -- We are learning more about the bus company involved in Saturday's fatal crash along Interstate 15. An Executive Lines charter bus flipped over, killing three and sending nearly 20 people, including a 5-year-old boy, to the hospital. Federal records show Executive Lines has been cited for several maintenance issues in the last two years. 10News looked into Executive Lines, a company out of El Monte in Los Angeles County. They specialize in charters from Los Angeles to San Ysidro, with many of their passengers heading to Tijuana International Airport. Saturday's charter bus, carrying 21 passengers plus the driver, was headed toward San Ysidro before it crashed on I-15 near Pala Mesa. "The vehicle lost control, veered to the right, obviously traversed this shoulder, and eventually overturned," Officer Mark Latulippe of the Oceanside California Highway Patrol [CHP] said. Witnesses said several passengers were ejected from the bus. CHP confirmed that likely none of them were wearing their required seatbelts. Three of them were pronounced dead on the scene, and nearly 20 were transported to various hospitals. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration [FMCSA], in the last two years, none of the Executive Lines buses were involved in crashes. But out of 19 vehicle inspections for their seven-vehicle fleet, 13 of the checks came back with a total of 26 vehicle maintenance violations. That puts them in the 48th percentile, meaning nearly half of all bus companies have better on-road performance than Executive Lines. 10News also looked into the inspection history of the exact Charter bus that crashed Saturday. They're either painting over red curbs to add spaces, or they're adding red paint to the curbs near their driveways to keep people from blocking them in.Either way, it's illegal and the city deals with hundreds of complaints each year on its Get it Done website and app. City officials say it's most common in neighborhoods like Hillcrest, Pacific Beach and North Park, where the population is dense, and parking spots are at a premium.San Diego Municipal Code 82.14 says "No person shall paint or otherwise mark any curb, sidewalk or street surface without first complying with the requirements of this code." Although city officials say it's tough to enforce because it's hard to prove who painted the curb. The San Diego Police Department wasn't able to provide 10News with details on what the penalties could be.An SDPD Spokesman did say anyone who gets a ticket for parking in a red zone that may be illegal can appeal the citation here.In 2017, the city dealt with 222 reports of illegally painted curbs on the Get it Done website. They try to respond to all of them. Already in 2018, there have been more than a dozen.
