HAIKOU, April 25 (Xinhua) -- China's fishery administration said on Sunday it had started regular patrols of the South China Sea, sending two vessels to take over from two others currently escorting Chinese fishing boats in the area."China Yuzheng 301 and 302 take over from China Yuzheng 311 and 202, which have been patrolling the sea area of Nansha Islands since April 1," said Wu Zhuang, director of Administration of Fishery and Fishing Harbor Supervision for South China Sea under the Ministry of Agriculture.He said the patrol ships were sent to escort Chinese fishing boats in the South China Sea and reinforce China's fishing rights of the waters around Nansha Islands.The two ships set sail from Sanya, a coastal city in China's Southernmost Island Province of Hainan, on Sunday.China's patrol vessels escort the country's fishing boats and help treat fishermen who fall ill, Wu said. MOSCOW, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Russia will give humanitarian aid to quake-stricken China, a source at the Emergency Situations Ministry told Russian media on Friday."Under the Russian president's order, the ministry will deliver tents, blankets, diesel generators and food to China, about 40 tons of cargo in total," the ministry said, quoted by the Itar- Tass news agency.The flight is scheduled for Saturday, the source said."An Ilyushin Il-76 cargo plane of the ministry will bring the aid to the Qinghai province, which sustained the heaviest damage in the recent quake," the ministry said.Another plane will bring more aid to China in the near future.Last Wednesday, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake rocked the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu, in Qinghai province, killing over 2,000 people and injuring 10,000 others.

WASHINGTON, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Powered by strong domestic demand, China's economy is expected to grow by 10 percent in 2010, said the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday."In China, GDP growth exceeded the government's 8 percent target in 2009 and is expected to be close to 10 percent in both 2010 and 2011. What has been so far mainly a publicly driven growth path, built on infrastructure investment, is expected to turn toward stronger private consumption and investment," said the IMF in its latest World Economic Outlook report."Boosting domestic consumption will be a priority in China, through improved access to finance for small enterprises and households and stronger corporate governance and social safety nets to reduce precautionary saving," said the IMF.According to the report, in which the IMF said Asia's GDP is projected to grow by 7 percent in both 2010 and 2011, the strength in final domestic demand in China is expected to have positive spillovers for other Asian economies, particularly exporters of commodities and capital goods.In the report, the IMF said "the global recovery has evolved better than expected, with activity recovering at varying speeds, tepidly in many advanced economies but solidly in most emerging and developing economies."The world economy, which declined by 0.6 percent in 2009, will recover gradually in 2010 and 2011, growing by 4.2 percent and 4.3 percent respectively, said the IMF.

BEIJING, May 4 (Xinhua) -- China called off its grade II drought emergency response on Tuesday as the severe drought in its southwestern regions eased after recent rain.The drought, one of the worst in decades, eased in most parts of the Chongqing Municipality, provinces of Sichuan and Guizhou, and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, said the Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters in a statement on its website.But in Yunnan Province, the drought was still severe in most parts as the province had only received limited and scattered rainfalls, it said.Southwestern China had six falls of rain between March 22 and April 26, which ranged in volume from 50 to 100 millimeters, figures from the China Meteorological Administration showed.As of Tuesday, up to 123 million mu (about 8.3 million hectares) of arable land in China was affected by the drought, with 17.91 million people and 12.43 million farm animals still short of water, said the statement.
