Hurricane Michael's death toll climbed to 18 Saturday, after another victim was discovered in Virginia.Fears were mounting for those who did not heed evacuation orders before Hurricane Michael bulldozed large swaths of Florida's Panhandle, and residents in the hardest-hit areas grew increasingly desperate for provisions.Three days after the monster storm, with rescue workers cutting through hulking debris piles in search of survivors, residents formed long lines outside fire stations, schools and Salvation Army food trucks to collect bottled water and ready-to-eat meals (MREs)."It's about to get stupid if people don't get food and water," Panama City Assistant Fire Chief Gary Swearingen said Saturday. Some have already resorted to looting, according to CNN affiliate WEAR-TV, because of the lack of resources such as water, electricity and food. 862

In a Facebook Live interview Thursday with company founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Dr. Anthony Fauci reiterated that America is making costly mistakes in fighting the novel coronavirus.Fauci, the White House's top expert on infectious diseases, blamed some states — without naming them specifically — for "skipping steps" and reopening too quickly."You've got to do it correctly. You can't jump over steps, which is very perilous when you think about rebound," Fauci said. "The proof in the pudding is: Look what's happened. There really is no reason why we're having 40-, 50-, 60,000 (new cases per day) other than the fact that we're not doing something correctly."Fauci urged Americans not to look at social distancing restrictions in opposition to a return to economic normalcy, but as a means to rebounding."We should be looking at public health issues as a gateway to getting the economy back," Fauci said.Zuckerberg agreed with Fauci — and even took a dig at the Trump administration."It's really disappointing that we still don't have adequate testing, that the credibility of our top scientists like yourself and the CDC are being undermined and until recently parts of the administration were calling into question whether people should even follow basic best practices like wearing a mask.," Zuckerberg said.Fauci's hour-long conversation with Zuckerberg comes days after the White House's top trade expert Peter Navarro published an op-ed in USA Today in an attempt to discredit Fauci. President Donald Trump later said that Navarro "shouldn't be doing that," and USA Today has said the piece did not meet the paper's fact-checking standards. On Wednesday, in an interview with The Atlantic, Fauci called the episode "bizarre," and urged other White House staffers to end political infighting regarding the pandemic.Once a staple on television — both news interviews and in the White House's daily coronavirus task force briefings — Fauci has been notably absent from the airwaves in recent weeks. When asked by The Atlantic if the administration was curtailing his TV appearances, Fauci said he couldn't comment, but added that "I think you know what the answer to that is."Trump maintains that he and Fauci have a "very good relationship." 2261

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. — A suspected drunk driver nearly hit several beach-goers Sunday before his SUV ended up in the ocean. The driver, identified as 50-year-old Jorge Mosti, was driving in the 1600 block of Seacoast Dr. just after 6:30 p.m. local time when witnesses say his SUV left the roadway and went onto the beach, according to San Diego Sheriff's Department. As he continued onto the beach, SDSO said Mosti nearly hit several people as he drove about a mile down the beach. His vehicle came eventually came to a stop when it partially submerged in the ocean.Mosti reportedly then jumped out of the vehicle and started walking toward Tijuana, Mexico. He made it about half a mile before deputies caught up to him. Deputies said Mosti was holding an open beer can as they took him into custody.Imperial Beach Lifeguards also responded to help pull the SUV from the water.Witnesses at the beach identified Mosti in a curbside lineup, SDSO said. He was arrested on charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. 1078

If the Mega Millions jackpot is not won when the numbers are drawn tonight, Friday's potential jackpot of billion will have a lump sum of .142 billion.Today's jackpot, as of noon Eastern Time today, is .6 billion. It's the largest ever in the U.S.Today's lump sum, or the one-time cash option, is currently at 5 million. If the money moves to Friday because there is no winner today, it could make the winner on Friday a BILLIONAIRE, even through the lump sum. That's a first for any U.S. lottery. 524

In an op-ed in USA Today, White House staffer and Assistant to the President Peter Navarro denounced Dr. Anthony Fauci — the Director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases — as being "wrong about everything I have interacted with him on" when it comes to the coronavirus pandemic. In the column, Navarro claimed Fauci — who, until recently, was one of the most publicly available members of the coronavirus task force — did not properly warn the public about the dangers of COVID-19."When I warned in late January in a memo of a possibly deadly pandemic, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases was telling the news media not to worry," he wrote in his op-ed.Navarro claimed in the column that Fauci "fought against" President Donald Trump's decision to ban travel between the United States in China, despite ample evidence to the contrary. Finally, Navarro chastised Fauci for "flip-flopping on the use of masks."Fauci and several other government officials and agencies — including the CDC and Surgeon General Jerome Adams — initially recommended against the use of masks by the general public in the hopes of preserving a depleted national stockpile. However, Fauci has often advocated for the use of masks in public since the CDC changed its guidance in April, and has since admitted the inconsistent guidance was "was detrimental in getting the message across."Navarro's op-ed is just the latest attempt by White House officials to discredit the administration's top infectious disease expert in the middle of a pandemic. Over the weekend, reports emerged that an anonymous White House official told several news agencies that the administration was concerned about Fauci's track record on the virus.President Donald Trump has also publicly broken with Fauci on several points, including reopening schools, testing and the current outlook. On Monday, Trump maintained that he and Fauci have a "very good relationship."A New York Times poll indicates that 76% of Americans trusted Fauci to provide "accurate information" regarding COVID-19, while just 26% of Americans said the same for Trump. 2162
