CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Video shows a frantic rescue effort in Chula Vista after a car went off Interstate 5, leaving two adults and a child trapped upside down. “We got a kid! We got a kid! Oh my god,” said Jay Corona, one of the good Samaritans who rushed to help when they spotted the overturned car near H Street around 10 a.m. Corona and his girlfriend Priscilla Valdovinos were on their way to a salon when they came across the wreck. “I was shocked, I was nervous, I was scared, all that,” said Valdovinos. "Somebody's in there. Somebody's in there."Smoke was rushing from the muffler so furiously Corona thought the car would explode. He saw the family hanging upside down by their seat belts and was able to save a mother and her young child. However, the front door of the sedan was stuck. “It wouldn't open. Because it was really jammed. I just kept pulling and pulling, and then the next thing I know I yanked it open,” Corona said. “I got it open and [the grandma] was in the front seat like, traumatized. She was like, 'Help me please, my back is hurting.'” RELATED: Good Samaritan recovering after getting hit by carValdovinos and Corona said the sedan hydroplaned in wet weather. With the help of other drivers, Corona escorted the grandmother back to the roadway. She was shaken up, but not seriously injured. Corona, who works as a security guard at a North Park bar, says his training kicked in. “I was very proud. He makes me proud every day! I fall in love with him every day, but today I told him, this is one that I'll remember,” said Valdovinos. The couple was struck by how many other people stopped to help. Christiane Amanpour will officially replace Charlie Rose on PBS stations across the country.The move was made official at the public broadcaster's annual meeting on Tuesday. It has been in the works for five months, ever since PBS stations began replaying Amanpour's CNN International program.Those half-hour Amanpour rebroadcasts were an interim replacement for Rose's 11 p.m. talk show, which was cancelled last November after women came forward to accuse him of sexual harassment and misconduct.Now Amanpour is expanding to an hour, like Rose's show used to be. The show will have a new name, "Amanpour & Company," and a stable of regular contributors. The changes will take effect in July."I'm delighted to expand my role at PBS from interim to permanent along with this remarkable diversity of voices and views," Amanpour said. "Never has the time for exploring our world and America's place in it been so urgent."Her statement also alluded to Rose's exit and the reason for it: "I am also thrilled to be a female filling this role at this time!"The expansion was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.Amanpour is CNN's chief international correspondent. (KGTV) - A Chula Vista jiu-jitsu instructor pleaded not guilty Wednesday on four counts of lewd acts against a child under the age of 14.Deputy District Attorney Julie Lynn told 10News the alleged incident involving Gabriel Gonzalez happened August 18. It did not take place at the Chula Vista Jiu-Jitsu facility on Third Ave. where Gonzalez worked, Lynn said.The judge issued a protective order for Gonzalez to stay away from two females, whose names 10News is withholding due to the sensitive nature of the charges.Gonzalez’ bail was also increased to 0,000. 606

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Pastor Art Hodges stood on the steps of Chula Vista City Hall Wednesday, surrounded by about 50 people of faith. "Hear our prayer. Forgive our sin," Hodges said during the group prayer.The people were rallying against a program that calls for drag queens to read to children. Drag Queen Story Hour is scheduled to start Tuesday at the Chula Vista Civic Center Library. At the rally, those opposing the program said it would harm a child's growth and development. They also demanded public hearings."If there are parents that want drag queens to come read books to their children, they have that right. They're the parents, we're not protesting their right," said Hodges. "But they should do that privately, on their own time, in their own place, on their own dollar."Supporters say the program promotes tolerance and acceptance. Chula Vista Mayor Mary Salas called it "preposterous" to have a City Council vote for a one-hour reading program, which she said would not be canceled. "The City of Chula Vista is proud to celebrate the diversity of our community in all of our programs," Salas said in a statement. "The purpose of this event is to encourage children to use their imagination and creativity and most importantly to read."The tone of Wednesday's rally was much different than one held last week, in which tempers flared from the start. This time, only a handful of Drag Queen Story Hour supporters watched the rally from the side. Supporter Shelley Rudd, a retired teacher, said the drag queen reading program benefits children. "I think that it really helps those children who may be questioning, an opportunity to see that there are options and that it's okay," Rudd said. Last week, a different rally organized by a group called Mass Resistance got heated, with police stepping between both sides on two separate occasions.
