(KGTV) - An unscheduled Veterans Day tribute played out at a cemetery in the North County.More than a week ago, local florist Jenelle Brinneman learned Valley Center's annual Veterans Day program had been canceled by COVID-19, including a ceremony at Valley Center Cemetery.She started raising money online and during her flower deliveries. In the end, she raised enough to place roses at the graves of hundreds of veterans."We have over 300 veterans that laid to rest here and we just wanted to make sure they are remembered," said Brinneman.Donors could nominate veterans for rose bouquets. One of those donors was the family of Robert Cronin, an Army veteran who fought in World War II in France and Germany. He passed away in 1992 at the age of 83."It means a lot to me to have him honored because he was a special part of our lives," said granddaughter Francesca Pappagallo.She says Cronin earned numerous medals, including the Legion of Merit for inventing a slide rule tool to increase the accuracy of cannons. Loved ones thought his rank was 'Colonel,' but after he passed away, a different truth emerged."They did a lot of research and he was actually a retired one-star General. TUCSON, ARIZ. — A U.S. Deputy Marshal died in the line of duty on Thursday in a shooting with a suspect.The Marshal was serving an active felony warrant around 5:30 p.m. for 26-year-old Ryan Schlesinger for stalking law enforcement when the marshal was shot on scene.The Tucson Police Department confirmed that the fallen marshal was not alone at the scene and was with other officers.After the shooting occurred, police officers responded by sending units to the scene and surrounding the house.Schlesinger surrendered to police and per the Tucson Police Department, was not injured and brought into custody without incident.The Marshal was rushed with the hospital but died from injuries.The Tucson Police Department is not releasing the name of the fallen marshal at this time, but U.S. Marshal David Gonzales, who serves the district of Arizona, is at the hospital with personnel.The department is working with federal agencies to investigate the situation and is offering their deep condolences to the marshal's family. 1032

Uber's IPO will likely arrive before the end of the decade.CEO Dara Khosrowshahi confirmed on Thursday that the company's "target" is to go public in 2019. The move is a departure from his predecessor, Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick, who had tried to put off an IPO as long as possible."We have all of the disadvantages of being a public company, as far as the spotlight on us, without any of the advantages of being a public company," Khosrowshahi said on stage at the New York Times DealBook Conference in Manhattan."Travis and the whole board now agree that we should just go public," he added.Uber currently has a valuation of billion, which makes it the most highly valued startup in the world. The company has raised more than billion in capital since its founding in 2009.SoftBank, the Japanese conglomerate, has also been in discussions with Uber for a massive private investment expected to total in the billions. Khosrowshahi expressed confidence about getting Uber's entire board on the same page and closing the deal."There's negotiations going on," he said. U.S. officials say the nation’s first COVID-19 vaccine will begin arriving in states Monday morning. Army Gen. Gustave Perna said Saturday that trucks will roll out Sunday morning as shipping companies UPS and FedEx begin delivering Pfizer’s vaccine to nearly 150 distribution centers across the states. An additional 425 sites will get shipments Tuesday, and the remaining 66 on Wednesday. Perna is with Operation Warp Speed, the Trump administration’s vaccine development program. Initially, about 3 million doses are expected to be shipped nationwide, with priority going to health care workers and nursing home residents.The FDA called the vaccine from Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech safe and strongly protective.After the FDA approved the vaccine, President Donald Trump thanked the FDA and praised both Pfizer and Moderna in a video posted to his Twitter account.But initial doses are scarce and rationed, with health workers and nursing home residents first in line.According to the Associated Press, about 3 million doses of the vaccine are expected in the first shipments around the country, according to officials with Operation Warp Speed.In a letter of authorization, the FDA said that in an ongoing trial of 44,000 people, the agency found the vaccine was safe and more than 90% effective in older adults.In a press release, the FDA said participants in the trial complained of several side effects, which included pain at the injection site, tiredness, headache, muscle pain, chills, joint pain, and fever.The FDA added that these side effects typically lasted several days, and people experienced the side effects after the second dose than after the first dose.“While not an FDA approval, today’s emergency use authorization of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine holds the promise to alter the course of this pandemic in the United States,” said Peter Marks, M.D., Ph.D., Director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research in the press release.Enough for the general population isn't expected until spring, and experts urge people to mask up and keep their distance during a long, grim winter.“Today’s action follows an open and transparent review process that included input from independent scientific and public health experts and a thorough evaluation by the agency’s career scientists to ensure this vaccine met FDA’s rigorous, scientific standards for safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality needed to support emergency use authorization," said FDA Commissioner Stephen M.
