As the New England Patriots prepared to take the field for the AFC title game, police say the team’s owner Robert Kraft was at the Orchids of Asia Day Spa in Jupiter, Florida, soliciting a sex worker, according to new details released in the investigation.Kraft denies any illegal activity. The case has received widespread attention once authorities revealed Kraft’s involvement in the investigation. However, the case stretches far beyond the billionaire and South Florida. "I think it's very safe to say without any hyperbole that this is the tip of the tip of the iceberg,” said Sheriff William Snyder of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. So far, 25 people have been charged with solicitation, and police believe hundreds of others could be arrested. In just three months, the investigation has already uncovered a multi-million dollar international scheme that stretches from China to New York City and Palm Beach, Florida. "It's about time the country has a real conversation about human trafficking, which is modern day slavery in our midst,” said Dave Aronberg, state attorney for Palm Beach County, in a recent presser. “This is not about lonely old men or victimless crimes.” Amanda Finger, the executive director of the Laboratory to Combat Human Trafficking, says unfortunately, this isn't the only type of trafficking they've seen. “You also see cases that involve tourism industry that involve people in the western slope, who are forced into farm work ranchers,” Finger says. Many organizations consider human trafficking the world's fastest growing crime. The most common form is sex trafficking, and the industry pulls in an estimated billion each year. According to the United Nations, most of the victims are women and girls. Finger says any community can be impacted, so she helps people and organizations recognize red flags, like poor living conditions and ways people spend money. “If they ever talk about needing to give it back to someone else, someone else is controlling their money, someone else is controlling their documentation and they don't have their ID on them,” Finger says of signs someone may be a victim. Humans rights groups hope the arrest of Kraft will bring more awareness to this pervasive problem. 2263

Prosecutors have charged a 17-year-old from Illinois in the fatal shooting of two protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and the wounding of a third. Kenosha County District Attorney Michael Graveley filed the charges against Kyle Rittenhouse Thursday afternoon. The charges include one count of first-degree intentional homicide; one count of first-degree reckless homicide; one count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide; two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment. All those charges are felonies. He could face a mandatory life sentence if convicted of first-degree intentional homicide, the most serious crime in Wisconsin. A photo of 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse posted on Tik Tok (Kyle Rittenhouse/ Tik Tok) Rittenhouse was arrested in Antioch, Illinois Wednesday and charged with first-degree intentional homicide. He turned himself in at the Antioch police headquarters, according to police. Prosecutors say Rittenhouse opened fire with a long gun on a crowd of protesters Tuesday night near Civic Center Park in Kenosha. One victim was injured and is recovering in the hospital. The other two were pronounced dead from bullet wounds.Rittenhouse remains in custody of the Lake County Judicial System awaiting extradition to Wisconsin.Shortly before midnight Tuesday, cell phone video from Twitter user ‘LivesMatterShow’ captured the gunfire that erupted in a car lot near 63rd and Sheridan. Jhalin Goodlow said he witnessed the shooting while working security across the street.“Once I heard gunshots, I booked it because I wasn’t armed,” he said. “I didn’t have no protection.”While Goodlow was taking cover, he heard more shots on the street in front of him.Cell phone video that was posted to social media by ‘BGOnTheScene’ shows a man who was armed with a rifle get up off the ground and shoot two people less than 10 feet away from him.“This not the action of those I believe who set out to do protests, it is the people who were involved after the legal timing involved in illegal activity that brought violence to this community,” Kenosha Police Chief Miskinis said on Wednesday.Law enforced officials were questioned Wednesday about the events that occurred after the shooting. Cell phone video shows the gunman walked over to officers with his hands in the air. Police are seen in the video moving past him to tend to the victims.“There’s screaming, there’s hollering, there’s a squad car running there’s bearcats idling and if the officer happened to be in the car, the radio traffic was nonstop,” explained Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth.Kenosha County Sheriff Beth believes the suspect was with a group of armed people who claimed to have come to Kenosha to protect businesses and homes from looting and fires. Mayor John Antaramian said their presence isn’t wanted in Kenosha.“I don’t need more guns on the street in the community when we are trying to keep people safe,” he said. “Law enforcement is trained. They’re the ones responsible.Chief Miskinis said a 36-year-old person from Kenosha and a 26-year-old person from Silver Lake died in the shooting. Their names haven’t been officially released. This article was written by WTMJ.The Associated Press contributed to this report. 3268

New Mexico made history Tuesday with its voters deciding on sending three women of color to the U.S. House.Incumbent Deb Haaland (D) — a Laguna Pueblo member and one of the nation's first Native American congresswoman - was re-elected to represent the state's 1st Congressional District by defeating retired police officer Rep. Michelle Garcia Holmes. In the race for the state's 2nd congressional district, Republican Yvette Herrell, whose a member of the Cherokee Nation, defeated Democrat Xochitl Torres Small."It’s the honor of my life to be elected to serve New Mexico District 2," Herrell tweeted after her victory was declared. "My commitment to each citizen of our district is that I will serve each of them with integrity as we work together to rebuild our economy and protect the values that make America great!" It’s two weeks after Election Day, and President Donald Trump still refuses to concede that he lost the battle for the White House. Recounts underway are not expected to change the result. Democrat Joe Biden captured enough electoral votes to become the next President of the United States at noon on Jan 20.But what if Donald Trump refuses to leave the White House and keeps fighting?Seem far-fetched? Perhaps. But Monday morning, Trump tweeted, “I won the election!” And then, a little later, “The Radical Left Democrats, working with their partner, the Fake News Media, are trying to STEAL this Election. We won’t let them!” The Radical Left Democrats, working with their partner, the Fake News Media, are trying to STEAL this Election. We won’t let them!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 16, 2020 So, what may have once been unthinkable seems like a valid question to ask.PIX11 put the question to five leading election law scholars. What would happen if President Trump refused to leave, assuming the electoral votes cast on Electoral College Day (Dec. 14) go as expected and Joe Biden gets more than half the 538 available.“The important thing is not whether he is physically in the White House,” said Michael Dimino of Widener University Commonwealth Law School in Harrisburg, PA. “The important thing is who is permitted to exercise the powers of the presidency. The Constitution establishes a procedure for deciding that question.”That means Donald Trump no longer would have any authority.Professor Justin Levitt of Loyola Law School in Los Angeles told us, “The states will certify their results, the electors will cast their votes, Congress will count those votes … and then we’ve got a new President. And at noon on the 20th. … the only way that Donald Trump will be permitted on White House grounds is if he’s invited.”Richard Briffault, an authority on election law at Columbia Law School put it this way, “I also assume that at noon on January 20, he becomes a trespasser and possibly a security risk and could be removed.”Presumably, any forced removal would be handled by the same agency that protected President Trump during his term, the Secret Service.Rebecca Green, the co-director of the Election Law Program at William & Mary Law School, described what the new president could do to resolve any problem.“If Joe Biden is duly elected president and Trump refuses to leave the White House, Biden will order that Trump be escorted from White House grounds,” Green said.Another expert, whom we’re not naming because the professor is under contract as an election analyst with another media outlet, agreed that if Donald Trump stays in the White House, he’d be a trespasser and “he’d be escorted out if it came to that.”"Nobody can retain the powers of the presidency by refusing to leave,” Professor Dimono summed up. He underscored that the country is a nation of law. “It is the votes of the electors -- as counted by Congress -- that determine who can exercise the powers of the presidency," Dimono said. So, one way or the other, Donald Trump would have to vacate the premises. This story was first reported by Allen Levine at PIX11 in New York, New York. 3230
