A former teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School near Shamokin, Pa. was fired last week after she told the principal she is pregnant and not married.Naiad Reich and her boyfriend Matt Graboski are expecting their first child together. It's supposed to be a happy time for the couple who live near Shamokin. Instead, Reich was fired from her teaching job at a Catholic school because the couple is not married.Reich and Graboski are expecting their first child next summer."I'm extremely excited," Graboski said. "It's one of the most rewarding things you can possibly go through."Recently, that excitement has been overshadowed. For the past two years, Reich was a high school teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School, a Catholic school near Shamokin.Last week, she told the principal she was pregnant."It was very apparent that she was not happy with the circumstances. Of course, her problem was Catholic morals," said Reich.She said the principal's concern was that the couple are not married. The Diocese of Harrisburg had questions."If there's no eventual plan in the near future to get married, it was either that or I had to be let go," Reich said.Reich didn't want to be fired and understands the Catholic morality code. The couple also wants to get married on their own terms. Reich lost her job last Friday.A spokesperson for the diocese said, "The Diocese of Harrisburg is unable to comment on personnel matters. However, as outlined in our policies, every professional employee agrees to follow the teachings, doctrine, and laws of the Catholic Church as part of the hiring process."Despite all of that, Reich and Graboski have no ill will towards Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School or the Diocese of Harrisburg."This is their beliefs and their moral code and what they live by and I understand that. Though I don't agree with it, I understand," Reich said.Many parents agree with Reich."I get their reasoning behind it and why they have to, but I don't agree with it. I don't think it was very nice to do," said Ashley Stroh of Coal Township."This teacher is not even Catholic. I don't care if she would have been, but it's still wrong for her to lose her job," said Geri Albertini of Shamokin.Reich says, above all else, she misses her students. A family is grieving after their loved one died when her home collapsed during a tornado in Kentucky."It's just like it flattened everything," Tammy Brown said.Brown said she is devastated and in disbelief after the force of a tornado brought down her parent's home on Dot Road in Logan County."He lost everything in 12 minutes," Brown said.She visited them just moments before the tornado struck."I mean, I left here yesterday at 3:15 p.m., and this place was picture perfect," Brown said. "And you look at it today, and you've got metal in all the trees. They've been walking around in the fields, and they went all the way to the river and they were finding my daughter's toys."Dallas Combs, 79, who went by Jane, was inside the home when it collapsed."Dad's not coping… he was the one that found her," Brown said.John Combs was outside putting down sandbags when the tornado hit."So when it took the roof off, it sucked him back through the basement, so he immediately went up the steps, and he started calling for her," Brown said. "He moved a big thing of bricks, and he knew the minute he saw her she was gone."The woman he loved was taken from him. They had lived in that home for 30 years."All he can tell me is, 'The love of my life is gone' and 'I can't live by myself because I've never been by myself,'" Brown said.Jane and John were just months away from celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary."She was a very Christian woman, and her last words to you every single time was, 'I love you.' Because she never knew if when she saw you, it was going to be the last time," Brown said.On Saturday, Tammy Brown's mother said "I love you" for the last time.She said it's upsetting that her parents had no warning."My phone went off after she was dead," Brown said.According to the National Weather Service's report, the EF-2 tornado touched down at 3:54 p.m. on Saturday. The tornado warning was issued at 4:06 p.m. according to the NWS survey team from Louisville, Kentucky.For this family, it was too late, and now they begin the process of rebuilding without Jane by their side."I'm like, we'll make it through it, dad," Brown said. A group of siblings are back together after being separated in foster care.A Texas couple with three biological children officially adopted the five siblings over a Zoom call in May, doubling the size of their family.Andi Bonura says she and her husband, Thomas, had been wanting to adopt after years of pregnancy issues. Their three existing children, Joey, Sadie and Daphne, were born premature. They also lost one child during a pregnancy and another died in the NICU.So, in 2017, the couple got licensed to become foster parents. Their first foster child was Bryson, who is now 2 years old. The couple then began fostering two of Bryson’s older siblings, David and Gabrielle.Eventually, the two final siblings, Thomas and Carter, started visiting the Bonura home and asked if they could also come live with them, according to Bonura.Bonura says that one day, she got a call saying their foster children’s biological parents were terminating their rights to the kids and they were given the option to adopt them. They said yes.Bonura says finally adopting the children was so freeing and felt wonderful.“We had been working so hard for years to get them all together, to bond as a family and it just feels so amazing to all of us, knowing we are a family, finally,” said Bonura.If you’re considering becoming a foster parent or adopting, Bonura says to do it if you can.“It will be the single most important and meaningful thing in your life,” she said. “The struggles to get to the place, your goal, is worth every tear. A gunman who opened fire near a Christmas market in Strasbourg shouted the Arabic phrase "Allahu Akbar," meaning "God is greater," at the time of the attack, French prosecutors said, as anti-terror police joined an international manhunt.The suspect, identified only as 29-year-old Cherif C, killed two people and left one on life support with no chance of recovery, said Paris prosecutor Remy Heitz. A gunman opened fire inside of a Cheltenham Township, Pa. Walmart on Tuesday, leaving five people shot and several others with non-gunshot injuries, NBC Philadelphia reported, citing law enforcement officials. The incident took place around 6:15 p.m., and has since been contained. Eyewitnesses told NBC Philadelphia that the shooting took place at a cash register inside of Walmart.A gunman reportedly took the gun out of his waistband and shot five people during an altercation. A pregnant woman, who was not shot, was injured trying to get away. Two police officers were also injured during a fight trying to apprehend the suspect. The gunman reportedly fired 10 gunshots inside of the Walmart before fleeing. All eight victims are expected to survive. Two people were taken into custody after the suspected gunman and a possible accomplice tried to flee.  917
