(KGTV) — A nursing student's trip to a Starbucks in National City turned into an knock-down struggle and dramatic chase in pursuit of her laptop.With three finals next week, nursing student Jacqueline Ang spent the Friday using a computer at a library Bonita. "Grateful for the resource, but it's not the same," said Ang, who is wrapping up her first year in the nursing program at Southwestern College.It's not the same, because it doesn't have what she really needs: a year of notes. "It's devastating," said Ang.On Monday afternoon, she was studying with her MacBook Pro at a busy Starbucks on E. Plaza Boulevard. "Both earphones are in listening to lectures. One hand on my laptop, and the other hand taking notes," said Ang.Ang says she was at a table near the middle of the Starbucks when an older black teen in a hoodie walked in, and right up to her. He unplugged her earphones and turned to her computer. "Grabs it by the screen, closes it and starts running," said Ang.As the man ran off, Ang screamed to get someone's attention. She then took off after him. "When he's at the door, I'm able to grab him by the hoodie and bring him down. I'm saying, 'Please don't take it. Please don't take it,'" said Ang.On the ground, a struggle unfolded. Ang weighs just over 100 pounds."It's all that's on my mind. 'Omigod, everything I worked hard for is on that thing. I need that. I need to fight for that,'" said Ang.At some point during the struggle, she says the man was able to hand it off to another young man in a hoodie. Ang chased the other man, who slipped into a van in the parking lot. She was close behind, opening a side door. "I see three or four people in the van. I was holding onto the handle, running with the car as they're moving," said Ang.A bystander's short video shows her being dragged, before she let go. The incident left her with a sprained wrist and no laptop, but one big clue. Because Ang made the thieves' plans go awry, a witness was able to get the license plate number.National City Police asked 10News not to release the license plate in order to not endanger the investigation. A spokesperson says they see a handful of similar crimes every year, but haven't linked the suspects to any other incidents.A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help Ang purchase a new computer. 2344

(KGTV) - A furnace door was not closed while the system was being operated at a San Diego County, California crematorium Thursday, sending heavy smoke containing the ashes of human remains above the area.The problem was reported at 12:15 p.m. at the Cortez Family Crematorium at 100 W. 35th St in National City, near Interstate 5 and SR-54.National City Fire Captain Brian Krebs said the furnace was in use and the oven door was not shut, sending smoke out of the chimney and the open doors of the building.The building’s heat detectors activated the fire extinguishers, according to a funeral home employee. Firefighters said the extinguishers gave off a strong odor. There were human remains in the smoke, Krebs confirmed. The plume moved east across National City Blvd. and Broadway toward the Best Buy and Walmart shopping center, according to a witness.The crematorium resumed operations Thursday afternoon. 962

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tattoo artists in Nashville are using their skills in ink to help in the fight against racial injustice by covering up racist tattoos for free.Colby Hunter of Sage & Serpent Tattoo in Inglewood, Tennessee, announced on Facebook last week that he will cover up racist tattoos for free to people who have truly had a change of heart. He was inspired by other tattoo artists in Nashville and Ohio who are running similar programs."This is something I'm able and capable of doing," Hunter said. "If they have made that turn in their lives and want to change their ways, I want to help out and make time for it."According to Hunter, tattoos considered racist include swastikas and SS bolts. The Anti-Defamation League lists more than 200 hate symbols in an online database. While he hasn't received any requests so far, Hunter stressed a vetting process is in place."I would like to hear people's stories. It's not just free cover-ups for people who are actively racist. They can stay at home, and I won't do anything for them," Hunter said.While other artists across the country are doing the same thing, not everyone agrees with the approach. Elisheba Mrozik of One Drop Ink Tattoo Parlour & Gallery said there needs to be more action and accountability."I get people wanting to help, but rewarding someone who has been a racist and taken the time and the pain and the money to spend on getting a piece of work to put on their body just to show how much they hate a specific group of people should not be rewarded," Mrozik said.Mrozik made a name for herself as the first black licensed tattoo artist in Nashville in 2011. She said that while the tattoo industry is rebellious in nature, it's also notorious for not valuing dark-skinned artists or clients.On top of just being willing to listen, Mrozik urged other artists to help by offering free tattoos to people with dark skin who they may have denied in the past as well as providing apprenticeships to black artists.Mrozik isn't against covering up the racist tattoos but said more needs to be done — and Safe House Tattoo agrees.Owner Ian White originally offered to cover the racist tattoos for free, but changed directions after watching Mrozik's video. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro Nashville Police has released body camera video from Officer Michael Sipos, one of the six officers who helped evacuate families ahead of the Christmas morning bombing.Sipos was issued a body camera just days before the explosion.The video shows actions both before and after the blast. The explosion happens around the 3:51 mark in the video below.Officer Sipos said in a press conference on Sunday that when they arrived, they didn't really notice the RV, and parked just across from it. That was before the RV began broadcasting a message that it contained a bomb and for people to evacuate the area.You can see the RV in the video around the 1:57 mark, and hear the RV's broadcast through much of the first few minutes of the video provided by Metro police.Sipos and his fellow officers began to work at knocking on doors, evacuating families ahead of the blast. Sipos says they got in contact with about six or seven families.Sipos returned to his patrol car and was getting equipment out of the trunk when it exploded.Much of the video shows Sipos and other MNPD officers returning to Second Avenue N. heavily damaged and on fire.
