AMC Theatres will reopen around 450 of its U.S. theaters in mid-July as part of a phased reopening following what its CEO called a “painful” hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Leawood-based chain’s first theaters will reopen on July 15, followed by its remaining 150 U.S. locations in time for the release of “Mulan” on July 24 and “Tenet” on July 31, according to a news release.AMC Theatres, already struggling before the pandemic, reported a nearly .2 billion loss for the first quarter of the year after it shuttered theaters worldwide.“After a painful almost four-month hiatus due to the coronavirus, we are delighted to announce that movies are coming back to the big screen at AMC,” AMC President and CEO Adam Aron said in the news release. “…I cannot emphasize enough how much care and attention to detail we have taken in developing AMC Safe and Clean, our absolute commitment to optimizing the health and safety of our theaters for our guests and associates.”Theaters will reopen with reduced seating capacity to encourage social distancing, along with increased cleaning, contactless ticketing, and mobile food and beverage orders.AMC said it expects different versions of seating limits in theaters to be in place until Thanksgiving, though it also acknowledged that those plans could change depending on local and regional health conditions. All theater employees will be required to wear masks. Initially, the company said masks would only be a requirement for guests in jurisdictions that require people to wear them in public. After facing scrutiny for the decision, which Aron told Variety was made because the company did "not want to be drawn into a political controversy," AMC reversed course on Friday and said masks would be a requirement for guests in all of its theaters."At AMC Theatres, we think it is absolutely crucial that we listen to our guests," a news release on Friday said. "Accordingly, and with the full support of our scientific advisors, we are reversing course and are changing our guest mask policy."Masks will be sold for at all locations for those who do not have one or forget to bring one. Those who are not willing to wear masks will not be admitted or allowed to stay, AMC said Friday.KSBH was the first to report this story. 2288

AKRON, Ohio - The Akron Police Department is investigating a viral video that shows officers using a Taser on a man and punching him while he was on the ground during an arrest. The video, captured by a neighbor, shows one officer punching the man multiple times.Warning: The video below includes images and language that some users may find disturbing.Akron police said they saw the man, who they identified as 47-year-old Patrick King, coming out of a known drug house Sunday. They made an investigative stop while he was walking down the street.King gave false information about his identity, an Akron police official said. An officer tried to detain him and got a handcuff on one of his hands. King then resisted by trying to run away, pulling away, tensing up and refusing all verbal commands, the official said.A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, captured the incident on video and posted it to Facebook – it’s since been shared over 3,000 times and viewed over 147,000 times. The neighbor felt the officers went too far."As soon as they put the one handcuff on him, that's when they got to throwing him around and slamming him and beating on him and stuff like that," he said.Akron police said they arrested King and charged him with tampering with evidence, resisting arrest, misrepresenting identity, drug paraphernalia and drug abuse. King also had an active warrant out of Cuyahoga County for a parole violation.Akron police said they have begun a use of force investigation into this incident. Akron officials have not identified the officers who were involved. Deputy Chief Jesse Leeser said King is 6-feet-4 and 220 pounds and the officers were winded trying to get him under control."Officers used force to include tasing, strikes and pressure points," Leeser said. "He was obviously actively fighting with these officers. The fight had gone to the ground. Not only did he have that handcuff as a weapon possibly, but the officers were also exposed. We're not street fighters."Leeser said all of the officers remain on the job. 2076

After devastating the US territory of Puerto Rico, Hurricane Maria is tracking toward the Turks and Caicos Islands, and beyond that, the stretched out island chain of the Bahamas. As the storm continues to inch towards the Turks and Caicos, also known as TCI, it's already lashing the small archipelago with winds of over 124 mph (200 kmh). It's expected to pass the islands with about 50 miles (80 kilometers) to spare, still close enough to dump around 40 inches (100 centimeters) of rain on the islands. 512

A Wisconsin judge has ruled against a Trump campaign lawsuit that sought to overturn the results of the presidential election in the state.“Because the court is satisfied the rules and guidelines applied in each of the disputed areas are reasonable, and a correct interpretation of the underlying early absentee voting laws, the certification of the results of the 2020 Wisconsin presidential election, after the Dane County and Milwaukee County recounts, is affirmed," Judge Stephen Simane said in a ruling released Friday.Hearings were scheduled Thursday for the campaign's federal and state lawsuits that were an effort to invalidate thousands of ballots in both Dane County and Milwaukee County. The attempt to overturn ballots in Milwaukee County was dismissed Thursday afternoon.Prior to the decision, attorneys for Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and the state elections commission said the cases are without merit and should be dismissed. The ruling clears the way for Wisconsin's 10 electoral college votes to go to Biden. The body will formally vote on Monday to seal Biden's win. This story is breaking and will be updated. 1133
