ASTANA, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- China's top political adviser, Jia Qinglin, met here Wednesday with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and both sides called for intensified bilateral ties.Jia, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, said during the meeting that bilateral relations have witnessed fruitful development since the two countries established diplomatic ties 18 years ago.China and Kazakhstan have supported each other in such issues concerning their core interests as sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, Jia said.They also have carried out close cooperation under multilateral frameworks of the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, the top adviser said.In addition, Jia said, both sides have kept close communications and coordination on major regional and international issues."Deepening relationship between the two was in line with the basic interests of the people in two countries, and China will work hard with Kazakhstan for a sounder and deeper relationship," Jia said.China and Kazakhstan bear great potential in economic development, and the two sides will further strengthen cooperation in the fields of finance, energy, transportation and tourism, Jia said.Nazarbayev hailed the close high-level contacts and the development of ties after the two countries established a strategic partnership in 2005.He also hailed the ever-deepening pragmatic cooperation that has benefited the two countries.Kazakhstan values the development of its ties with China and stands ready to work together to further enhance exchanges and cooperation in such areas as trade and economy, energy, and security so as to keep promoting their strategic relationship, the president said.Nazarbayev also vowed to intensify cooperation with China under the SCO framework."Since Kazakhstan is now chairing the rotating presidency of the organization, we will try all means to prepare and present a successful summit next year," he said.On the same day, Jia also met with Nurlan Nigmatulin, first deputy chairman of People's Democratic Party "Nur Otan." GABORONE, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping arrived in Gaborone on Saturday, kicking off his official visit to Botswana.Xi made the visit as a guest of Botswana's Vice President Mompati Merafhe who came to the airport to receive Xi.In his written speech, Xi said Botswana boasts beautiful scenery and has scored marked achievements in securing national unity and economic development.Xi said the China-Botswana relationship is very profound, noting that bilateral friendly cooperation ties have seen smooth and healthy expansion, which benefit the peoples from the two sides.Xi said his current visit is aimed to further consolidate traditional friendship between the two, increase mutual political trust and explore mutual cooperation."I'm looking forward to meeting leaders of Botswana and exchanging views with them on bilateral relations and other issues of common concern," he said.He also said he believed his visit would be a success.Botswana is the final leg of Xi's four-nation trip to Asia and Africa.In 1975, China and Botswana established the diplomatic relations.

BERLIN, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said here Thursday that China and Germany should join hands in expanding economic cooperation to achieve mutual benefits.Speaking at a dinner with German and Chinese business representatives, Li said that China has the capability and condition to maintain steady and relatively fast economic growth in the long run.But he added China is still a developing country and that it needs to make long-term and strenuous efforts to achieve its modernization goals and enable all the Chinese people to enjoy the benefits of economic and social development.On China-Germany relations, Li said that the two countries, through close cooperation and coordination, have achieved an early and robust recovery from the global financial crisis.Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang delivers a speech during an evening dinner with Chinese and German business people in Berlin, Germany, Jan. 6, 2011. ZHENGZHOU, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Seven company executives were suspended from duty or removed Monday after 26 miners were killed in a gas explosion in an illegally operated coal mine on Dec. 7 in central China's Henan Province, according to the group's spokesman.Forty-six miners were working underground when the blast occurred at the Juyuan Coal Mine, owned by Juyuan Coal Industry Co., Ltd. in Mianchi County, Sanmenxia City. The company is being merged into Yi Ma Coal Industry Group.Deputy general manager, Li Jianxin, of Yi Ma Coal Industry Group, the mine's prospective parent company, was suspended from duty pending investigation. Li was in charge of the group's merger and regrouping, said the group's spokesman.Manager Yao Nianshou and four deputy managers who were sent by the group to Juyuan Coal Industry Co., Ltd. were also removed, he said.The spokesman said the decisions to discipline the executives have been approved by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Henan Province. The final punishment for those responsible for the incident will be decided based on the findings of the on-going investigation.Managers of the Juyuan Coal Mine did not obtain a license to excavate coal from the site in Mianchi County, where the explosion occurred. Mine managers also ignored an order to halt production, as the mine's operations are being reorganized as part of the merger.The mine had been known as the Suzhuang Coal Mine and was later re-launched as Juyuan when it was merged into the large state-owned conglomerate Yi Ma Coal Industry Group.Police said they arrested the owner of the mine, Suo Yonggang, who allegedly hid the bodies of the victims to lessen the casualty count. Suo fled the mine following the blast.Mine managers first reported that only 20 miners were trapped when the blast occurred. Provincial work safety authorities updated the figure to 33 and then to 46 as investigators found more bodies in the mine. Only 20 miners survived.
