SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Driving in San Diego is starting to look like Los Angeles - or worse.For many San Diegans, the morning and afternoon commutes are more congested than the year before.Equinox Project, a research group, reported that San Diego drivers spent more than 19 hours stuck in traffic last year. The statistic is 30 minutes higher than 2016.“San Diego traffic wasn't even a thought back in the day,” said commuter Omid Sabet.San Diegans traveled 29 freeway miles per day in 2017, more than any other major county in California. By comparison, Los Angeles drivers traveled only 23 highway miles.“People want to buy houses, rent houses, but they’re getting pushed farther and farther away,” said Mikaela Bolling with Equinox Project.The number of solo drivers dropped half a percent in 2017.“It’s a small decrease but it’s good news that more people are carpooling, biking or walking to work,” Bolling said.Few San Diegans are using public transit or bike lanes but Bolling believes that could change.“There are more bike lanes being put in, so more people may be biking to work. Also, walkable neighborhoods, more people may be living closer to where they work.”  1189

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds of people lost power in Liberty Station and Point Loma Friday as a result of what San Diego Gas and Electric identified as an electrical problem.A witness reported an underground explosion and smoke coming from a manhole cover about 2 p.m. at 2230 Truxtun Road at Womble Road. The location is near the Trader Joe’s and Rock Church.1,200 customers lost power about the same time as the manhole report. SDG&E said the problem was electrical but did not provide details. SDG&E restored power about 4 p.m.Students at nearby High Tech High School exited the building away from the emergency location as a precaution.The power outages led some nearby businesses to close. 10News talked with a customer of The Lot movie theater who said the power shut down during a screening of the new Avengers movie. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Health officials said Wednesday that they are working with the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District to notify people possibly exposed to tuberculosis. Officials said the possible exposures happened at the college’s El Cajon and Rancho San Diego campuses between January 30 and April 24, according to County News Service.The college will be providing no-cost screenings to people who are identified as possibly having been exposed to TB.“Symptoms of active TB include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “But most people who are exposed do not develop the disease and TB can be treated and cured with medication.”The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency says it’s important for individuals with symptoms of TB, or who are immune-compromised to see their medical provider to rule out TB. 940

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Funerals will be held next Thursday for two teenagers killed when they mistakenly jumped off a freeway bridge on SR-56 after a crash. 18-year-old Ruben Ortiz Jr. and 17-year-old Jesse Garcia of Escondido were in a 2012 Nissan Altima that went out of control and crashed in Carmel Valley Tuesday night. The teens and four other people got out of the car and ran across eastbound lanes of the freeway. Ortiz and Garcia jumped over the railing, not realizing it was an 80-foot drop into Gonzales Creek. Two girls who had been in the vehicle, 14 and 15 years old, suffered severe injuries and remain in the hospital. “It sat at me and hit me and our community. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - HazMat teams responded to a fire station in North Park after a suspicious package was found outside the station, according to a San Diego Fire-Rescue official.Fire crews found the package by Station 14's front door around 3:20 p.m. Sunday when they returned from a call.Fire officials told 10News the package was a taped-up cardboard box with writing on it that made it appear dangerous. Some of the words were misspelled.The hazmat and bomb personnel set up a perimeter around the station, blocking off 32nd Street and Lincoln Avenue by about a block in each direction.The bomb squad x-rayed the package, determined that it was not dangerous, and reopened the street around 5:45 p.m.The package was filled with aluminum flux and trash, according to a tweet from San Diego Fire-Rescue.At about 3p on Sunday someone left this box at SDFD North Park station on 32nd St. The bomb team was called to ID the contents - aluminum flux and some trash.
