A Republican state lawmaker in Michigan has been removed from his committee assignments after saying he couldn't guarantee a safe day in the state capital on Monday as Michigan's electors gather to vote for Joe Biden.When asked if he could ensure that Monday's Electoral College vote could be held safely without any violence, Michigan Rep. Gary Eisen, R-St. Clair, said he couldn't."I don't know because what we're doing today is uncharted. A US Navy helicopter crashed onto the flight deck of an aircraft carrier in the Philippines Sea on Friday, injuring personnel on board.The MH-60 Seahawk hit the flight deck of the USS Ronald Reagan shortly after takeoff around 9 a.m., according to a statement released by the Navy's Seventh Fleet. All injured are in stable condition and are being evaluated by medical staff.The Navy did not say how many people were injured but that some "will be medically evacuated ashore" without specifying a location.An investigation has been opened into the cause of the crash, according to the statement.The incident occurred during routine operations in the Philippine Sea, which spreads north and east of the Philippines.The aircraft carrier "remains fully mission capable" and normal flight operations to support the mission of "support and security and stability in the Indo-Pacific Region" have resumed, the Navy said.Last week the Nimitz-class, or, nuclear-powered aircraft participated in the International Fleet Review near South Korea's Jeju Island.In May 2017, the USS Ronald Reagan began sea trials in the Pacific before replacing the USS Carl Vinson near the Korean Peninsula.The 1,092-foot Reagan carries a crew of 4,539 and is equipped with roughly 60 aircraft, according to the Navy. A Northern California family was forced to evacuate their home over the weekend, as the Carr wildfire continues to spread. Not only was the family tasked with getting themselves out, they also had to evacuate the animals on their rescue farm.Lisa Ellsworth runs Tiny Tim’s Pals, a pet rescue farm in El Dorado Hills, California.“It’s our family, yeah,” says Ellsworth. "We take ‘em in from—sometimes they’ve been abandoned; a lot have been abused, neglected.”This weekend, those animals needed to be rescued from their sanctuary, as the fire in Northern California moved frighteningly close to their farm.“All the sudden, our neighbors come drivin’ up and they’re like, ‘Get out! We’re being evacuated,’” recalls Ellsworth. “The police are coming around, so that’s the notice.”Because of the time constraints to get out, they had to abandon two pigs and two feral dogs that couldn’t be corralled into trailers in time. The animals the family could take, they brought to the Rolling Hills Equestrian Center.Terry Skevington, with the center, says it’s one of the few places that allows owners to bring animals of all shapes and sizes. The animals can even sleep on site with them.“I had an old couple park here and stay with their cats, because the hotels wouldn’t let them stay with their cats,” says Skevington. “To some of ‘em, that’s all they got left.”He says the outpouring of donations of items--like fans for the animal stalls, halters and even feed--has been overwhelming.As for Ellsworth, she doesn’t know the status of her home or the animals she left behind, but she says she’s been able to keep it off her mind by staying busy. Fortunately, Ellsworth has insurance. She says in the worst-case scenario, she’d use the money as an opportunity to build a new barn for her animals.Representatives for the Humane Society that serves the region say, overall, they’ve seen about 1,000 animals displaced since the Carr fire broke out. About 150 of those animals have been housed at Rolling Hills. The center’s operators here say those animals and their owners can stay as long as they need.  2118

A man who said he was "super hungover" caused a crash that killed a woman and severely injured a man in Arizona, according to officials. Scottsdale police report that on February 15 at 9:45 a.m., they responded to a two-vehicle crash near Hayden and McKellips roads.Police say 33-year-old Frederick Kipper MacArthur was driving his 2005 Infiniti?when he crossed the center line and struck another car with two people inside, head-on.?The passenger, Jessica Bailey, was killed in the collision and the driver continues to suffer from multiple injuries, including two broken legs, a femoral artery tear and partially amputated arm. MacArthur also went to the hospital with neck and rib fractures. Police say MacArthur admitted to drinking the night before and into the morning, saying he "got really drunk."
