Two sets of human remains found in the backyard of Chad Daybell's property have been confirmed to be those of JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan.According to a news release Saturday from the Rexburg Police Department in Idaho, the medical examiner's office confirmed their identities after performing an autopsy.Earlier this week, family members said in a statement that they were informed the remains were JJ and Tylee, who were reported missing last year. A report looking at cell phone data and geographical increases in COVID-19 cases, has estimated more than 260,000 cases nationwide were a result of the Sturgis motorcycle rally held in South Dakota.The 63-page report looked at the potential results of a “superspreader” event; an event where “large crowds, coupled with minimal mask-wearing and social distancing by attendees.” It included researchers from San Diego State University, Bentley University and University of Colorado Denver. The results were issued over the weekend and have not been peer reviewed at this time.The same group has looked at other events, like Black Lives Matter demonstrations nationwide and President Donald Trump’s rally in Tulsa.For the Sturgis event, they identified counties which saw lots of rally-goers and tracked COVID-19 cases before and after the event in those areas using available CDC data.Roughly 500,000 people attended the event, according to information from the South Dakota Department of Transportation, which ran from August 7 to 16.Their research found in counties nationwide who had a lot of Sturgis attendees, the COVID-19 case count in their home counties increased about 10.7 percent from about a month before to a few weeks after the rally."Under the guise of academic research, this report is nothing short of an attack on those who exercised their personal freedom to attend Sturgis,” Gov. Kristi Noem said in the statement to The Argus Leader. "Predictably, some in the media breathlessly report on this non-peer reviewed model, built on incredibly faulty assumptions that do not reflect the actual facts and data here in South Dakota."The state has reported 124 cases of COVID-19 of South Dakota residents who attended the rally.Last week, state health departments in various states issued warnings about residents who may have contracted COVID-19 at the Sturgis rally. States are relying on patients who test positive to report the possible exposure at the motorcycle rally. "We're never going to be able to contact trace every single person from Sturgis," Andrew Friedson, one of four authors of the study said. While Modern Warfare was committed to realism, especially in its campaign, this new game is soaked in conspiracy theories, explosions, and cheesy 80’s haircuts. Despite this sharp pivot, Cold War quickly finds its footing by committing to its wacky tendencies, and out-there plot twists. It never quite reaches the heights of the previous game, but it’s far from a misfire.If this game’s campaign was turned into a feature film, it would be a contender for the most dad-friendly action flick of the year. All the ingredients are there, a Robert Redford look-alike, rock n’ roll music, Russian spies, and a villain posing a global threat that only a special team can prevent from happening. Maybe it was the testosterone radiating from my screen, or maybe it was too much coffee, but I was on-board with the ridiculousness from the get-go, even if it’s a tad too much off the rails at times. While I’m no stranger to lowering things down to easy mode, in Cold War I played the campaign on the highest difficulty and found it to be surprisingly balanced and fair. Firefights are just the right amount of tense, without making the player feel like they need to duck after every shot, but if you make the wrong move, a game over is still inevitable. Thanks to the games friendly checkpoint system, a restart is never the end-of-the-world,but just a small delay in progression. Giving this mode a try is bound to help you when you take your skills online. Each year, when I dabble in Call of Duty multiplayer, I expect quick, snappy action and maps that are memorable. Cold War checks both those boxes. All the classic modes are here, including Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Search and Destroy. If you’re looking for larger-scale battles, the battle royale like Warzone is included in the package, and for the horde mode enthusiasts, Zombies is back too. Best of all, crossplay is back as a feature, bringing gamers that much closer to the end of the console wars. After more than a decade of these games, seeing experience points increase, guns unlock, and stats pop-up on-screen still elicits a rush of excitement like few shooters can create, which explains why the series continues to be on-top each year. Maybe it’s riding the coattails of last year’s formula, but I would have liked to see more zany qualities instilled in the multiplayer mode to match the campaign’s tone. Including just the slightest bit of 80’s themes would have been enough to separate itself from Modern Warfare. Just give me an eye-rolling one liner, maybe a Rambo-like headband, anything at all! Instead, it just feels like the same game with new maps, making for the same old Call of Duty atmosphere. I was never confused about what a perk does, button layout, or rules of a game mode. The series perfected multiplayer long ago, it’s time to take more risks.Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is another successful entry in the franchise. RICHMOND, Va. - Governor Northam announced Wednesday that he has signed several new laws to reform policing and criminal justice in the Commonwealth. These reforms include measures banning no-knock warrants and limiting the use of neck restraints by law enforcement. The laws also require law enforcement officers to intervene or report when they see wrongdoing from colleagues, and banning sexual relations between officers and justice-involved individuals.“Too many families, in Virginia and across our nation, live in fear of being hurt or killed by police,” said Governor Northam. “These new laws represent a tremendous step forward in rebuilding trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. I am grateful to the legislators and advocates who have worked so hard to make this change happen. Virginia is better, more just, and more equitable with these laws on our books.”Governor Northam signed the following bills that reform policing:Senate Bill 5030, sponsored by Senator Locke, omnibus police reform legislation, which incorporates a number of critical reform measures passed by the House of Delegates:House Bill 5099, sponsored by Delegate Aird, prohibits law enforcement officers from seeking or executing a no-knock search warrant. With Governor Northam’s signature, Virginia becomes the third state in the nation to ban no-knock warrants.House Bill 5049, sponsored by Delegate Helmer, reduces the militarization of police by prohibiting law enforcement from obtaining or using specified equipment, including grenades, weaponized aircraft, and high caliber firearms. Governor Northam amended this bill to clarify that law enforcement agencies can seek a waiver to use restricted equipment for search and rescue missions.House Bill 5109, sponsored by Delegate Hope, creates statewide minimum training standards for law enforcement officers, including training on awareness of racism, the potential for biased profiling, and de-escalation techniques.
