WINDHOEK, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo on Saturday met with Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba on advancing the bilateral cooperation to further develop the partnership with Namibia.Wu, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, China's top legislative body, extended Chinese President Hu Jintao's greetings to Pohamba and hailed an "all- weather" partnership forged between the two nations.Namibia is one of the youngest states in Africa, which became fully independent in 1990.Wu reviewed the profound friendship between the two countries, which established diplomatic ties one day after Namibia's announcement of its full independence.Wu said the two countries have reaped good harvests in cooperation in the fields of politics, trade, culture, education, public health and culture in recent years, which has already set a model for countries engaged in the South-South cooperation.He also highlighted the mutual understanding and support on issues concerning each other's core interests, and to bring the bilateral economic and trade cooperation to a new high, Wu put forward a three-point proposal concerning the importation of the husbandry and aquatic products, resource and mining as well as the infrastructure construction.Namibia is a nation with significant influence in the southern Africa, Wu said, vowing that China will work with the Namibian side to push the bilateral partnership to a higher level.For his part, Pohamba welcomed Wu's visit, the first one ever paid by a Chinese top legislator, and spoke highly of China's long-standing support for Namibia's national liberation and construction.Namibia will develop the long-term and strategic cooperation in a much broader domain with China and welcomes more Chinese businesses to invest in the country, the Namibian president said.On the China-Afrcia relationship, the two leaders stressed that the two sides should work closer under the framework of the Forum of China-Africa Cooperation to boost political mutual trust, substantial and pragmatic cooperation on trade and humanitarian exchanges, especially those among the young generations, so as to further enrich a new China-Africa partnership.Namibia is the first leg of Wu's 12-day African-Asian tour. BEIJING, March 3 (Xinhuanet) -- A new study suggested that regular use of painkiller ibuprofen may cut the risk of developing Parkinson's disease, according to Reuters reports.The research findings were published in the online edition of the journal Neurology on Wednesday and later will appear in the print edition on March 8.The study, which followed more than 136,000 U.S. men and women for six years, showed that people who took ibuprofen at least twice a week were 38 percent less likely to develop Parkinson's, a brain disorder that causes tremors and movement problems, compared to those who didn't take the pain reliever so often.Ibuprofen is sold in the U.S. as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). But the study didn't prove that other NSAIDS, like aspirin or naproxen, could also cut the Parkinson's risk."Our study suggests ibuprofen could be a potential neuroprotective agent against Parkinson's," says lead researcher Dr. Xiang Gao from Harvard Medical School, "Protective effects are seen after taking ibuprofen two or more times a week. That's so-called regular use."However, he also warned that no proof has been found that ibuprofen itself can help ward off Parkinson's, and said that it's too early to recommend people to start taking ibuprofen to protect against the disorder.Gao said, "We just see an association, not some causal relationship."Besides, regular ibuprofen use has risks, like stomach bleeding and kidney damage.

CARACAS, March 30 (Xinhua) -- The number of confirmed cases of the A/H1N1 influenza in Venezuela has risen to 482 this year, Health Minister Eugenia Sader said on Wednesday.According to the latest report, the state of Merida in southeastern Venezuela has 189 A/H1N1 influenza cases, the biggest number ever reported, which was followed by the Capital District of Caracas with 112 cases. The other 181 cases were confirmed in 17 of 24 Venezuelan states.The first case for this year was reported in Merida earlier this month.Sader said that the Venezuelan government was trying to prevent the spread of the disease. Some 3 million people have been vaccinated against the virus.Three patients infected with the A/H1N1 influenza virus have died in the country this year, according to Sader.The A/H1N1 influenza can cause deadly pneumonia if it is not treated early.
