CHULA VISTA, Calif (KGTV) -- More than 20 people showed up to a town hall meeting hosted by the Baldwin and Sons regarding their development in Otay Ranch.Right now, the massive project includes 292 condos, 300 apartments, a 2-acre park and 15,000 square feet of commercial and retail space, as well as two hotels.  One of the hotels opened in 2017, and condos are under construction.The developer now wants to add 300 more apartments to their plan.  They say the plan will not require any additional space but instead will require a different building and site design.RELATED: Developer wants to add 300 apartments to Chula Vista propertyMany in the community raised concerns about traffic and the overcrowding in schools at the open house. Developers were there to address those concerns.According to Nick Lee, a study of the area says the roads it can accommodate nearly 12,000 trips a day. Even with the additional 300 units, it would push those numbers to around 8,000 trips a day.They also said they’ve spoken with the Elementary and High School districts, and both have told them they should be able to accommodate the students with their existing facilities.The developers expect to bring the new plans to planning commission next month. 1268

(KGTV) — Chef Jose Barajas' wild confection creations have made mouths water on episodes of TLC's "Next Great Baker," and soon, South Bay residents will get their own taste of his baked goods.Barajas, also seen on Food Network, is bringing his custom cake skills to downtown Chula Vista with Mmm...Cakes, a cafe-style bakery offering cake by the slice, custom cakes, beer and wine to compliment desserts, and more. (KGTV) - Parents in Chula Vista are horrified after finding out that dozens of children are taking part in what is being called an after-school fight club. Alain Tripp has lived across the street from Bonita Vista Middle School for more than a decade. Once the bell rings, he sees students walk along the canyon trail to go home. But lately, he has been noticing something else. “Every so often I see a group of 15-20 kids. They’ll be standing there and fighting,” Tripp said.Tripp is not the only one who has seen fighting just off campus.Other neighbors said they had witnessed dozens of kids running down the trail on minimum-day Fridays, to participate in organized fights at Discovery Park. One Bonita Vista Middle School student’s mother sent 10News a photo of what appears to be many students scattering after one of the so-called fights. Parents said the students then upload fight videos onto a secret Instagram account, seeking internet fame.“They just see a lot of people who are Youtube famous… A famous Youtuber popping up in their heads and stuff,” Tripp said. “I feel like every year, kids are trying to grow up faster.”Some neighbors told 10News that they have tried to stop the alleged fights, but they say these keep happening. Now, the school is stepping in. 10 News got a copy of the letter sent to parents from Bonita Vista Middle School Principal, Teresa Kramer. 1457

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A woman accused of stealing a car containing two young children from outside a Lincoln Park cell phone store and driving to the U.S.-Mexico border, pleaded not guilty today to kidnapping and child abduction charges.RELATED: Police: Woman arrested after stealing car with kids inside, trying to cross border into Mexico?Leslie Esparanza Saenz, 26, was ordered held without bail pending a review hearing next Wednesday.  The father of the 8-year-old girl and 3-year-old boy parked his gold Hyundai Excel outside the Cricket Wireless shop in the 200 block of Euclid Avenue about 12:15 p.m. Monday and went into the business by himself, leaving the vehicle unlocked and its engine running, according to San Diego police.   Moments later, a woman who appeared to be in her late teens got into the car and drove off to the east on Imperial Avenue with the children still inside, Officer Luis Roman said.Police searched for the stolen car and missing children until shortly before 2 p.m., when the Hyundai arrived at the San Ysidro Port of Entry at the southern terminus of Interstate 5.There, federal agents who had gotten a be-on-the-lookout bulletin regarding the auto theft and kidnapping took the driver  - who was later identified as Saenz -- into custody without incident.   Authorities then reunited the children, who had suffered no injuries during the ordeal, with their father and returned his car to him, Roman said.Police have not established a motive for the alleged kidnapping. 1553
