HOUSTON — The stepfather of a missing Texas girl has been taken into custody. Houston police said Darion Vence, who was the last person to see Maleah Davis, 4, was arrested Saturday. Vence was charged with tampering with evidence, "namely a corpse." Officials have not confirmed whether they believe Maleah is dead or if her body has been found. Maleah has been missing since May 3, after her stepfather told police that she was abducted by "three Hispanic males" after they ambushed them as they were on the way to Bush Intercontinental Airport. Vence had reported to police that he had stopped on the highway to check his tires because of a "popping noise." He said then he was ambushed by the men, who knocked him unconscious and took the car and Maleah. Houston police said that blood found at Vence's apartment linked to Maleah and he was seen carrying a full laundry basket from the apartment. 912

FT. MYERS, Fla. — A 40-year investigation into a missing Wisconsin woman ended earlier this week when police arrested a cold case suspect in Ft. Myers, Florida.John Bayerl, 78, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of first degree murder in the disappearance of his wife, Dona Mae Bayerl, who police say was 38 years old when she disappeared. In May of 1979, Bayerl reported his wife missing and told police that she stormed out of their Muskego, Wisconsin home after an argument, never to be seen again. Friends and family insisted Dona Mae Bayerl would never leave her daughters behind, who were four and seven years old at the time.Though Dona Mae Bayerl was declared dead in 1986 and the case eventually ran cold, police say they never closed the investigation, and "officers continued to be assigned to the cold case." Bayerl continued to remain a person of interest as the case was eventually reclassified from a missing person case to a homicide.A warrant for Bayerl's arrest was issued last Friday, February 15, and the Muskego Police Department traveled to Ft. Myers to take Bayerl into custody with assistance from the Lee County Sheriff's Department. Bayerl waived extradition and is currently in the Waukesha County Jail.In 2017, Muskego Police 1263

For the third time in the span of less than a week, a House Republican lawmaker on Thursday blocked the passage of a multibillion-dollar disaster relief bill, essentially guaranteeing the bill won't pass until the full House is back from recess on Monday. The House and Senate are on recess this week, but when House Democrats tried to pass the legislation through unanimous consent on Thursday afternoon, Republican Rep. John Rose of Tennessee objected. The objection of just one lawmaker is all it takes to block legislation from being approved by unanimous consent. The legislation is still expected to have the votes to pass when the House returns to Washington next week, but the objection will stall the bill until a floor vote can take place. The .1 billion bill passed the Senate by a vote of 85 to 8 earlier this month and President Donald Trump has 871
