CHONGQING, June 27 (Xinhua) -- A delegation led by Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) chairman Chiang Pin-kung will arrive at Chongqing on Monday for the fifth round of talks with the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS).The talks will be held on Tuesday, with the much-anticipated Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) and an agreement on intellectual property protection likely to be signed.Chiang told a news conference in Taipei Sunday that the signing of ECFA would profoundly influence Taiwan's economy, particularly in trade and investment, as well as the development of relations between Taiwan and the mainland.He said he expected a positive change of Taiwan's economic development mode after the signing of ECFA.The two sides will hold a vice-chairman level preparatory discussion on Monday afternoon.After the talks, Wang Yi, head of the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, will meet the SEF negotiators on Tuesday.Bo Xilai, secretary of the Chongqing municipal committee of the Communist Party of China, will also meet the representatives from the two sides on Wednesday morning.The SEF delegation is scheduled to leave Chongqing on Wednesday afternoon.Since June 2008, when regular talks between the SEF and ARATS were restarted, the two sides had held four rounds of talks respectively in Beijing, Taipei, Nanjing and Taichung.The talks brought about several agreements regarding among other things: mainlanders visiting Taiwan, cross-Strait shipping, air transportation, cooperation in fighting against crime and mutual legal assistance.

BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has said that low-rent and affordable housing construction should be sped up to meet people's basic demands for living.The construction of public low-rent housing seeks to offer middle and low-income urban residents with adequate housing and affordable rents. This not only helps curb skyrocketing property prices in some cities, but is also conducive to bridge the income gap and assist in urbanization, Li told a national meeting which concluded on Saturday.While speaking at the two-day meeting, Li urged local authorities to create favorable taxation and financing policies to support such housing programs.He noted that private capital is also welcome to join the mission to diversify fund raising channels. BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) -- China's gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to expand more than 9 percent in 2010, Yi Gang, head of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE), said Friday.Yi, also deputy governor of the People's Bank of China, the central bank, made the remarks in an interview with China Reform magazine, which is posted on the SAFE website Friday.China's GDP grew 11.1 percent in the first half of 2010 from the same period of last year.Yi said China's economic growth rate will eventually slow down because its economic base is expanding, while the country's development faces huge pressure in fields of environmental protection, resources and energy."The restriction caused by environmental factors has been unprecedented, such as underground water, air, and carbon emission," Yi said.Yi said the priority of China's economy is the quality of the growth."That's why we have to restructure and transform growth modes -- for improving the growth quality and the efficiency," Yi said.
