(KGTV) - Income taxes on military pension is pushing a lot of people out of California. A new study proves that taking those taxes away would actually help both veterans and the state. For the people who served their country, it's tough to make it in California. "My wife just retired," said Matthew Schillingburg. "I just retired and so we're all on disposable income right now."He served in the army for more than 20 years. When his income is taxed by the state it can be hard to get by. "The thing that’s really holding us here, this community right here in San Diego that we grew up and love so much, our kids and our grandkids here," Schillingburg added.He joins 1.8 million military veterans who live in California. Many of them are looking to leave the state for more affordable areas where their pension won't take a hit. Assembly Bill 2394 is trying to change that. "If we can eliminate that, that helps us have more disposable income and we can consume more in the community that we love so much," said Schillingburg.According to a new study, if veterans were exempt from state taxes there would be big changes by the year 2025. More than 12,000 jobs would be added to the economy, along with 0 million in total personal income, million in state and local taxes and billion in total business sales. The bill is currently in committee. (KGTV) -- A San Diego woman’s mother is missing following a solo trip to Zion National Park in Utah, according to CNN.Holly Courtier hasn’t been seen or heard from since October 6 when she embarked on the trip.Courtier was dropped off at the park by a private shuttle bus and scheduled to be picked up the same day, but never returned, KABC reports.Courtier’s daughter Kailey Chambers told the station her mother is an experienced hiker. (KGTV) -- Adults in their mid-20s are now more likely to live with a parent than with a spouse, according to an Apartment List report. Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the report found that 50 years ago, 76 percent of 26-year-olds in America lived with their spouse. Today, only 24 percent of 26-year-olds live with a spouse while they are more likely to live with a parent.The bureau also found that 17 percent of 26-year-olds live with an unmarried partner, 15 percent live with a non-family roommate and 10 percent live alone. In 2007, the year before the collapse of the housing market bubble, the composition of housing began to change.According to Apartment List, the economic recession, ballooning student debt and lack of affordable housing in cities with job opportunities placed pressure on young adults who, in previous generations, would have been able to start their own households. So what about the future? Apartment List says it expects the trend to continue as housing costs skyrocket. As rents rise, the site says roommates and co-living arrangements will become even more appealing. Despite the discouraging trend, there are solutions. A housing development in the South Bay aims to give San Diego renters a better chance to become homeowners. For those who are teachers, San Diego could begin to build affordable housing for employees and teachers struggling to make ends meet. (KGTV) — Firefighters battled a vegetation fire north of Fallbrook Saturday afternoon.Cal Fire firefighters reported the brush fire near the intersection of Deluz Rd. and Santa Margarita Trail in the Deluz area, north of Fallbrook.Dubbed the Santa Fire, the blaze was at 6 acres and 0% contained just before 2 p.m. Fire crews said there was no immediate structure threat in the area. Just before 2:30 p.m., Cal Fire reported that forward rate had been stopped and crews would remain on scene "to mop-up and build containment line."It's not clear how the fire began. 573
