Microsoft said in a blog post on Thursday that it has discovered efforts by Iran, China and Russia to launch cyberattacks on the presidential campaigns of Joe Biden and Donald Trump.Tom Burt, Microsoft’s corporate vice president for customer security and trust, wrote that Microsoft was able to stop the cyberattacks from happening, and have notified the campaigns of the three countries’ efforts.“We disclose attacks like these because we believe it’s important the world knows about threats to democratic processes,” Burt wrote. “It is critical that everyone involved in democratic processes around the world, both directly or indirectly, be aware of these threats and take steps to protect themselves in both their personal and professional capacities. We report on nation-state activity to our customers and more broadly when material to the public, regardless of the actor’s nation-state affiliation. We are taking extra steps to protect customers involved in elections, government and policymaking.”Last month, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence released a statement outlining efforts by Iran, China and Russia to attempt to undermine this year’s presidential election.“Ahead of the 2020 U.S. elections, foreign states will continue to use covert and overt influence measures in their attempts to sway U.S. voters’ preferences and perspectives, shift U.S. policies, increase discord in the United States, and undermine the American people’s confidence in our democratic process,” William Evanina, director of the United States National Counterintelligence and Security Center, said. MAUI, Hawaii (AP) — Authorities say the man killed by a shark in Hawaii this weekend was a 65-year-old resident of California.Shark warning signs are posted Sunday in the Ka'anapali Beach Park area on Maui where the man died.Witness Allison Keller tells Hawaii News Now that the man appeared unconscious as rescuers brought him to shore Saturday.Keller says the victim was missing his left leg from the knee down and skin was torn from his wrist.Hawaii's Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement confirmed the man's age but did not release his name. MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS (EastIdahoNews.com) — An Oregon man who officials say was caught on camera harassing a bison in Yellowstone National Park was arrested late Thursday night.Raymond Reinke, 55, of Pendleton, Oregon, was apprehended by Glacier National Park rangers around 10:45 p.m.Reinke had been traveling to multiple national parks over the last week, according to a Yellowstone National Park news release. On July 28, he was arrested by law enforcement rangers at Grand Teton National Park for an alleged drunk and disorderly conduct incident. He spent the night in the Teton County Jail, and was released on bond.Park officials say Reinke then traveled to Yellowstone National Park. Rangers stopped his vehicle for a traffic violation on July 31 and he appeared to be intoxicated and was argumentative, the news release says. He was cited as a passenger for failure to wear a seat belt and authorities believe after the traffic stop, Reinke encountered the bison.A passerby captured the incident on camera and the video has been seen millions of times with the majority of viewers expressing outrage at Reinke’s behavior.Yellowstone rangers received several wildlife harassment reports and issued Reinke a citation Wednesday evening before the video surfaced.On Thursday, rangers connected Reinke’s extensive history, and after seeing his alleged wildlife violation, the Assistant U.S. Attorney requested his bond be revoked. The request was granted and a warrant was issued for Reinke’s arrest Thursday.Reinke had told rangers that his plans were to travel to Glacier National Park so park rangers at Glacier began looking for his vehicle Thursday night. Around the same time, rangers responded to the Many Glacier Hotel because two guests were creating a disturbance. Rangers identified one of the individuals involved as Reinke.“We appreciate the collaboration of our fellow rangers in Glacier and Grand Teton national parks on this arrest. Harassing wildlife is illegal in any national park,” Yellowstone National Park Superintendent Dan Wenk said in a statement.Glacier rangers transported Reinke to Helena late last night, where they met Yellowstone rangers. MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — Maple Heights Mayor Annette Blackwell believes northeast Ohio's shortage of affordable housing is having a tragic impact on the academic development of children. Blackwell told WEWS the affordable housing shortage is causing too many families to move from school district to school district and, in some cases, multiple moves are made in one school year.Blackwell said housing insecurity is playing a major factor in hindering the education of children, especially children from African-American families living in Cleveland and the inner-ring suburbs."It is an issue here in northeast Ohio, it is an issue here in the school district in Maple Heights," Blackwell said. "These children have to deal with the stress when they see their parents negotiating with the landlord, they see mom's rejection, they are part of that rejection when the application gets turned down, or the eviction notice comes.""All of these things add to the heightened sense of anxiety and stress.
