A special guide dog has reinvigorated Anastasia Pagonis' zest for life and her swimming career.After a devastating diagnosis and the loss of her sight, it was Radar that helped pick her back up.Pagonis started losing her vision when she was 14 years old. Her parents signed her up for swimming and she excelled, but when she lost her sight completely, she didn't want to get back in the pool at all.Things changed once Anastasia received a guide dog from Puppies with a Purpose."Radar is my guide dog. He is honestly the best thing that has happened to me. I'm so happy to have him in my life." Radar has also given Anastasia the confidence to get back in the pool "When I got back in the water and just, like, felt the chlorine on my skin, I knew that this is what I wanted to do. I knew that I was going to do anything I could possibly do to get me where I wanted to be. And that's Tokyo 2021." A ten-year-old girl who was the subject of an AMBER Alert Monday has been found dead near her home. Kodie B. Dutcher was reported missing Monday afternoon, and a search of her home in Baraboo, Wisconsin found evidence that the girl threatened self-harm. The AMBER Alert message said Dutcher was suspected of taking "an unknown amount of pills and may be suicidal." The girl left behind her shoes and cell phone.Community members gathered to look for her Monday night and again Tuesday morning. No word at this time who found her body. Lt. A New York City woman is taking to social media in hopes of using her voice and her story to make a difference for Black women fighting breast cancer. According to the CDC, breast cancer death rates are 40 % higher among Black women then white women.Suzette Simon wears a superhero costume to chemotherapy, and says, she's armed with superhero strength. She's also taking social media by storm, filming things like "live from chemo.""I’ll do a dance duet but then at the bottom, I’ll say yah I’m dancing, but I want you to know 40% of Black women who get cancer die from it,” Simon said.For Simon, this fight is personal. It started 30 years ago when her mom, Aline, a Black woman who had no health insurance, died alone in a New York public hospital at age 62.“I don’t think she had an advocate and I think that’s part of the reason why I do this, because she didn’t have an advocate,” Simon said.“Now that I’m going through my own cancer, I want to use it to advocate for others. I want to use my superpowers,” Simon said. “I come from television. My background is comedy and so I have superpowers. I want to make people happy I want to make people laugh.”She was diagnosed in January and has decided to put her creativity and energy on the internet. She hopes to educate and empower black women.“Harriet Tubman had strong Black boobs, Rosa Parks had strong Black boobs, but they didn’t have a superhero, and 42% of those strong Black boobs got cancer,” Simon said. “Maybe not them, but there are a lot of heroic women with strong Black boobs that got cancer so I’m here to be that superhero for those women with strong Black boobs.”The CDC states that breast cancer is found earlier in white women and that the number of cases is higher among Black women who are younger than 60 years old.Dr. Caroline Elistin, assistant dean of faculty at Chamberlain University College of Nursing, says there's a reason behind the disparities in healthcare.“I believe that trust has something to do with it. In the current workforce diversity amongst physicians is limited- you want the individual who is caring for you and trust them -when they look like you,” said Dr. Elistin said, who works in medical oncology in South Florida. She says breast cancer is just one of the types of cancer she treats.“Mounting evidence suggests when physicians and patients share the same race or ethnicity, it improves the time spent together the medication adherence the decision making- wait times with treatment as well,” Dr. Elistin said.Those in poorer areas she says, don't have the same opportunities, which leads to a lack of success. And that is just one aspect of the societal problem.“Has this breast surgeon ever worked with Black women? It became a journey,” Simon said. “I was not going to be my mom, in a hallway trying to get help. I was not going to be that person.”The #strongblackboobs movement lives on, she says, through smiles and joy, even in pain.“And just laughing through the most difficult time of life- it's a funny time- when you know you could die it's the funniest time ever- you’ve gotta have a good time,” Simon said.And she says, you have to spread the message of awareness, which is just one aspect of her movement to make a difference. 3253

A New York judge dismissed count 6 of Harvey Weinstein's criminal indictment Thursday, which was a criminal sexual act in the first degree.The count stems from charges brought forth against the disgraced movie producer in May by Manhattan District Attorney's Office.A source familiar with the investigation told CNN at the time that the criminal sex act charge was from a case involving aspiring actress Lucia Evans, who alleged Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him in his Tribeca office in 2004. She first spoke out about the alleged incident to Ronan Farrow in the New Yorker last fall.Carrie Goldberg, an attorney for Evans, spoke to reporters outside the court in lower Manhattan following the dismissal, and said the prosecution "jumped ship" and "ultimately she was caught between the middle of a feud between the NYPD and the DA's office."Goldberg added that despite District Attorney Cy Vance not opposing a motion to dismiss the charges against Weinstein, her client's claims remain and this "does speak to a system desperate in need of reform.""People always ask why don't sexual assault survivors come forward, this is why. Today is why," Goldberg said.
