HUDSON, Fla. — A Florida woman was arrested after she reportedly left two small children in a hot car with a bag of methamphetamine on the front seat while she was shopping in a Hudson, Fla. dollar store. Deputies responded to the dollar store to check the welfare of two young children in a hot car all alone. The children, a 1-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, were both seated in the back seat of the car. Deputies found a small clear bag containing a crystal-like substance sitting on the driver's seat. A field presumptive test showed the substance tested positive for methamphetamine. Deputies located Nicole Buffington, 24, inside the Dollar Tree store nearby and brought her outside. The investigation indicated the children were left alone from 12:06 p.m. to 12:29 p.m. while a bag of meth was easily accessible to the two small children, placing them in a state of neglect. Buffington was arrested and transported to the Land O Lakes Jail without incident. Buffington has been charged with child neglect and possession of methamphetamine. 1088

During a press conference Wednesday, officials expressed serious concerns of the amount of people who chose to stay and ride out the storm."I'm worried that large numbers didn't evacuate, because we have very good information that they didn't,” said Chief Mark Bowen with Bay County Emergency Services. “When you look at shelter counts, traffic counts, and the number of people who live in those evacuation zones, it's just math. So, there are people out in this storm. It’s just physics and common sense that there's going to be some situations out there that could be unsurvivable.”Emergency responders got emotional as they spoke of having to hunker down and wait out the worst of the storm before they could respond to those in need. (KGTV) - The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a residential burglary that happened in the overnight to early hours on Wednesday.The break-in happened at a house on Date Avenue.According to residents someone broke into their house and stole several items while they were asleep. Taryn Williamson, who lives in the home, said the thief must have gone into their room because she noticed her purse, her boyfriend’s phone, and a Nintendo Switch gaming system, were missing.  All were on a table in their bedroom.Her purse had 0 in cash as well as credit cards. Williamson says the money was to pay for rent, but they were able to raise it back in a few hours through GoFundMe.“I’m a really light sleeper," Williamson said, "I'm really shocked I didn't wake up, he (or she) must have been really quiet."Williamson said her roommate discovered the front door was open when she left for work around 5 a.m.  They are not sure how the thief got inside, but she says it's possible someone left the door unlocked before going to bed the night before.If you have any information, you’re asked to call the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office. 1223
