HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaii's governor says that starting Oct. 15, travelers arriving from out of state may bypass a 14-day quarantine requirement if they test negative for COVID-19.Travelers will have to take the test within 72 hours before their flight arrives in the islands.The governor, David Ige, says drug store operator CVS and healthcare provider Kaiser Permanente will conduct the tests as part of an agreement with the state.Travelers will need to be able to show proof of their negative test results from a CLIA certified laboratory. Those who can’t will be required to quarantine for two weeks or until they can provide proof of their test results.Ige said in a press release that the new pre-travel testing program “is an important step toward reviving our economy while continuing to protect public health.”Earlier this year, Hawaii had plans to start a pre-travel testing program on Aug. 1 but had to postpone them as COVID-19 cases spiked on the U.S. mainland and in Hawaii. HONOLULU (AP) — A couple who authorities say knowingly had COVID-19 but boarded a United Airlines flight from San Francisco to Lihue, Hawaii, anyway, have been banned from the airline.In an email to E.W. Scripps, a spokesman for United told the newspaper that they banned the couple while "they investigate the matter.""The health and safety of our employees and customers is our highest priority, which is why we have various policies and procedures in place as part of a multi-layered approach to create a safer travel environment, including mandating that everyone onboard wears a mask," the statement read. "Prior to traveling, all United customers are required to complete a ‘Ready to Fly’ checklist acknowledging they have not been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 14 days. We have banned these customers while we investigate this matter."The Kauai Police Department says Wesley Moribe and Courtney Peterson were arrested after they boarded a United flight home to Lihue with a 4-year-old child after San Francisco International Airport officials told them to isolate themselves and avoid the flight Sunday. Officials say Moribe and Peterson took COVID-19 detection tests and both knew they tested positive for the virus.“They knowingly boarded a flight aware of their positive covid-19 test results, placing the passengers of the flight in danger of death,” the Kauai police spokesperson, Coco Zickos, told the Washington Post.The Kauai residents were arrested on suspicion of second-degree reckless endangering. The child was released to the care of family members. Funeral arrangements are set for Mollie Tibbetts, a University of Iowa student whose body was found  earlier this week. Services will be held at Brooklyn, Guernsey, and Malcom High School in Tibbetts' hometown of Brooklyn, Iowa. A mass of resurrection will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. local timeTibbetts' body was found Tuesday after a month-long search and the autopsy shows she died from "sharp force objects."Christhian Rivera, a 24-year-old man from Mexico, has been charged with her murder.
