The Big Red Machine has been elected to political office.Glenn Jacobs -- better known as WWE wrestler Kane -- won his bid for Knox County, Tennessee mayor after roundly defeating his opponent, Linda Haney. He had the Democratic nominee on the ropes in Thursday's election, tallying twice as many votes -- 51,804 to Haney's 26,224.It was a much easier victory than his primary win over fellow Republican Brad Anders, who took the wrestling superstar to the mat -- Jacobs only won that race by a 23 vote margin.In his wrestling persona Jacobs, most often a "heel" or villain, is a fan favorite. He has previously wrestled in a red mask, giving rise to his nickname.He was already winding down his wrestling career before he ran for office, according to Bleacher Report.His new responsibility, Knox County, is home to the city of Knoxville and is the third-most populous county in Tennessee. 896

Support is growing for early voting, but there's still a lot of distrust for voting by mail.Just over 3 in 10 people say they're very confident their vote will be counted accurately if they vote by mail. Nearly 7 in 10 say the same thing about voting in person on Election Day. That's according to a new poll from the University of Maryland and The Washington Post.There's a big racial disparity in perceptions about election integrity. About 71% of Black Americans in the poll say it’s easier for white Americans to vote, while only 34% of white Americans believe that's the case.“There's a historic trend of distrust in government amongst racial and ethnic minorities,” said Jonathan Collins, education and political science assistant professor at Brown University. “And instances like this during the need to transition to mail-in voting. This is where that distrust really kind of rears its head.Collins studies ethnic minority political behavior. He says campaigns from state attorneys would be helpful to reassure people their mail-in ballots will be counted properly.The U.S. Postal Service is trying to educate people on its role in the mail-in voting process with TV ads. It says the nonpartisan campaign neither encourages nor discourages mail-in voting. Collins expects a lot of African Americans are still going to prefer in-person voting.“There is this sense of pride that you get from showing up to your precinct, to your polling station on Election Day and in-person casing your vote. There's a pride of wearing the 'I voted' sticker around for your friends and our family and your coworkers to see. How do we replicate that feeling of pride?”About 6 in 10 registered voters nationwide say they want to cast their ballot before Election Day. Compare that to 2016, when about 4 in 10 people cast ballots early.For mail-in voters worried about their vote not counting, many states allow residents to track their ballot. SYLMAR, LOS ANGELES (KGTV) -- Crews are battling a rapidly-spreading brush fire in northern Los Angeles County late Thursday night amid a statewide Red Flag Warnings.News station ABC7 is reporting that the 15-acre blaze, named Saddleridge Fire, is burning near homes and power lines.The fire erupted around 10 p.m. near the westbound 210 Freeway near Yarnell Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.Flames stopped traffic along the 210 when the fire jumped from the westbound side to the eastbound side. SunTrust says a former employee may have tried to print information on about 1.5 million customers and share it with a "criminal third party."Chairman and CEO William Rogers Jr. made the announcement Friday as the regional bank released its quarterly earnings.Rogers said the bank believes the information included names and account balances, but not Social Security numbers, account numbers or passwords. He also said the bank has not identified "significant fraudulent activity" on the accounts.Rogers said this was discovered "in conjunction with law enforcement." He did not identify or elaborate on the criminal third party.SunTrust is the 12th-largest US commercial bank by assets, according to the Federal Reserve. The stock was down 3% in premarket trading after the announcement.  802
