(KGTV) — Pacific Beach restaurants are open for dine-in service for the first time since the pandemic started."People look happy, people are just happy they don't have to cook for themselves right now, they have some place to go where someone can cook for them," Mavericks Event Manager Krista Marcheschi said.Mavericks is a popular destination for drinks and dancing weekend nights, but since the pandemic Marcheschi said they are adhering to the strict guidelines set by the county.RELATED: Encinitas lifeguards out in full force for Memorial DayMarcheschi said they closed on March 15th and reopened last week for take out. (KGTV) - A wall at the intersection of Ocean View and 30th in the Logan Heights neighborhood of San Diego has been turned from a place with frequent unwanted graffiti, to a work of art that embraces the community.David Mena said he and about seven artists have been painting the wall for about a month and it’s finally completed. It’s a celebration of the different types of people who live in the area, plus a look at the different cultures and ethnicities. From a depiction of the “tortilla lady” to the mascots from local schools, the art captures the spirit of a wide variety of types of people and brings a message of unity.“This is our peaceful protest and letting the community and everyone in San Diego county know that in these destructive times, we can build and we can move forward as a unit,” said Meno.He said he recruited youth in the area to help with the art as a way to inspire them and show them a positive influence.Mena said close to ,000 was donated by the community to help pay for supplies and food during the project. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A record 621 people died of drug overdoses in San Francisco so far this year, a staggering number that far outpaces the 173 deaths from COVID-19 the city has seen thus far. That's according to a San Francisco Chronicle report, which says the crisis fueled by the powerful painkiller fentanyl could have been far worse if it wasn’t for the nearly 3,000 times Narcan was used this year to reverse an overdose. The newspaper says the crisis is deepening because fentanyl flooded the city’s drug supply. Moreover, the pandemic has disrupted city services and left many people to use drugs alone. 620

San Diego Unified School Board president and math teacher Kevin Beiser will introduce a resolution at Tuesday night's meeting demanding action from state and federal lawmakers pass stricter gun control laws."It's an opportunity for us parents students and teachers to speak in unison and call on our elected officials to do what we know is right and implement reasonable gun reform now, said Beiser ahead of the meeting. The board did something similar after the Sandy Hook school shooting back in 2012 but Beiser thinks it's worth stating again. And although it's not included in the resolution, Beiser expects the issue of arming teachers to come up at the meeting.Last week President Trump said he favored arming teachers to protect students. 763

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— As the heat wave continues across San Diego County, businesses operating outside are forced to deal with another challenge during this pandemic.While the county has been removed from the state’s monitoring list, no guidance on reopening businesses has been provided, so many continue to work outside.“It’s super-hot,” said Elise Ha, owner of Master Hair & Nails in Ramona.
