ATHENS, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao finished the last leg of his five-nation trip here on Wednesday and embarked on his way home.     The trip, which began on Nov. 14, took him to a financial summit in Washington and the Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Lima.     He also paid state visits to Costa Rica, Cuba, Peru and Greece.     At the Washington summit, the Chinese leader outlined China's propositions on responding to the international financial crisis, explained major measures adopted by the Chinese government to ensure financial stability and economic development, and made proposals on reforming the international financial system.     At the APEC meeting, President Hu made proposals on furthering Asia-Pacific regional cooperation in dealing with the world financial crisis, the Doha Round of WTO negotiations, food and energy security, and other pressing issues facing the world and the region.     During his state visits to Costa Rica, Cuba, Peru and Greece, the Chinese president and leaders of the four nations exchanged views on the further development of bilateral relations and reached broad consensus on expanding friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation.     In Lima, Hu and his Peruvian counterpart Alan Garcia announced the conclusion of a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) and the upgrading of bilateral ties to a strategic partnership.

BEIJING, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares staged a broad-based rebound on Wednesday, making up the previous day's losses after an overnight rally on Wall Street.     The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index finished at 2,017 points, a gain of 6.05 percent. The Shenzhen Component Index rose 6.14 percent to 6,679 points.     Combined turnover shrank to 120.81 billion yuan (17.26 billion U.S. dollars) from the previous day's 145 billion yuan.     Gains outnumbered losses by 865 to eight in Shanghai and 743 to two in Shenzhen. China Citic Bank gained 6.51 percent to 4.42 yuan.     Telecom shares surged on reports of an imminent approval of 3G licenses. China United Telecommunications rose 10 percent to 6.03 yuan.     A Guangfa Securities note said the rebound showed investor confidence had risen after Tuesday's decline. The sharp rises of energy and banking stocks showed institutional investors were optimistic over market prospects. 

LIMA, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao met his Peruvian counterpart Alan Garcia Wednesday in Lima for talks on how to deepen comprehensive cooperative partnership between China and the Latin American nation.     The meeting took place soon after the Chinese leader's arrival in the Peruvian capital from Havana.     In a written statement issued upon his arrival here, the Chinese president said he will exchange views with Garcia and other Peruvian leaders on ways to deepen bilateral ties.     Following their talks, the two leaders will attend a signing ceremony of documents on cooperation in trade, customs, quality control and poverty reduction.     Peru is one of China's major trading partners in Latin America,with two-way trade totaling 6 billion U.S. dollars in 2007, a 53 percent increase over the previous year.     While in Lima, Hu will attend the Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, which will focus on the world financial crisis, support for the Doha round oftrade talks, food and energy security, and regional economic integration.     The Chinese president will also meet with leaders of several APEC member economies on the sidelines of the APEC meeting.

BEIJING, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- China's new rules on foreign media reflected the country's determination to carry on the policy of opening up to the outside world, a senior information official said here Saturday, hours after the issuing of the new rules.     Wang Chen said this in a ceremony for the establishment of "Israel Epstein Research Center" of Qinghua University.     Wang pointed out that the new rules draw on the experience of providing service and managerial assistance for foreign correspondents during Beijing Olympics, and they will make foreign correspondents reporting activities in China more convenient.     "Chinese government welcomes foreign media and reporters, and we hope more stories about the country will be told to the world. We will spare no effort to provide help and service to them," he said," meanwhile, we hope foreign media and reporters could abide by Chinese laws and professional morals, to report unbiasedly and justly, so to promote understanding and cooperation between China and the rest of the world."     According to the new rules, foreign reporters wishing to interview organizations or individuals in China no longer need to be received and accompanied by the Chinese organizations.     An item in the old version was also cancelled, which asked foreign reporters to get approval from the local government's foreign affairs department when they wanted to do reporting in the regions open to them.     Seymour Topping, a famous journalist from the United States and the former administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes, told Xinhua that the removal of the restrictions on foreign correspondents may mark an important progress of China,     China should learn to tolerate the judgement of the outside world, be it positive or negative. ATHENS, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- China attaches great attention to the cross-border cooperation and is willing to work together with the international communities to strengthen its effort in the fight against corruption, Teng Jiuming, head of the Chinese delegation, said at the 13th International Anti-Corruption Conference here on Sunday.     Teng, senior ombudsman from the Ministry of Supervision of China, said that corruption is a common challenge faced by all countries around the world.     "For years we have been carrying out international exchange and cooperation in the anti-corruption field based on the principles of equality, mutual benefit, of respect for differences, and of emphasis on effectiveness."     Teng pointed out that the Chinese government is ready to enhance its anti-corruption efforts together with other countries, regions and international organizations, so as to create a just and harmonious world.     The Chinese delegation also introduced China's anti-corruption strategies and practices in recent years at the conference.     According to the requirement of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), the National Bureau of Corruption Prevention was established under the Central Chinese Government, which is the first corruption prevention organ at the national level since the founding of the People's Republic of China.     Teng said on 13th, May 2008, the Chinese government published the Five-year Work Plan (2008-2012 ) on building and Completing the System for Punishing and Preventing Corruption.     China has also tabled the Anti-Money Laundering Law and the Regulations of the People's Republic of China on Disclosure of Government Information in recent years.     Business bribery is a common challenge faced by the international community. The Chinese government has initiated the anti-business bribery battle and notable progresses have been achieved, said Teng.     The 13th International Anti-corruption Conference, which attracted some 1,200 officials, scholars from all over the world to share their views in the fight against corruption, was held in Athens from October 30 to November 2, 2008.
