BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisory body decided Friday to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1911 Revolution in 2011.The decision was announced on the last day of the 11th session of the Standing Committee of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).The 1911 Revolution, led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, broke out on Oct. 10, 1911. It overthrew the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), ending thousands of years of Chinese feudalism.Separately, Jia Qinglin, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said at the meeting all attendees agreed with the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee proposal for the nation's next five-year program.Jia said all CPPCC National Committee members should learn and understand the proposal to ensure China realizes the transformation of its economic development pattern. The CPPCC will continue to make further efforts to help implement the 12th Five-Year Program, Jia said. Also Friday, Jia said at a group study meeting of the CPPCC National Committee that members and organizations of the CPPCC have made great efforts to promote economic and cultural exchange with Taiwan compatriots."It is necessary for CPPCC members to make a good use of our advantages with wide connections, be ready to offer advice and suggestions, and carry out and promote exchange between compatriots across the Taiwan Strait, so as to enhance understanding and trust, and make contribution to advancing peaceful reunification of our motherland," said Jia.

BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has urged government officials at all levels to strictly follow the laws and regulations in a bid to steer away from corruption and ensure the good of the public."In a peaceful time, corruption is the greatest danger for a ruling party, and the basic reason for corruption is that powers are not properly supervised and restricted," Wen said Friday during a national meeting on lawful administration. He called it a "major test" for the government to handle graft issues properly.Wen said the task of building a lawful government is the basic guarantee for promoting social fairness and justice, a key measure for anti-corruption and also an essential part for the reform of the country's political system."Currently our country's economic and social development has entered a new phase. More challenges have emerged as domestic and overseas environments become more complicated. We should deepen reform while promoting administration in accordance with the laws in order to solve new problems," he said.According to Wen, a sound market environment with fair competition can only be created when the government uses laws and regulations to manage various market entities, provide services for them and ensure their rights. He urged officials to strengthen legislation in key fields in order to solve deep-seated problems in the economic and social development, and ensure public ideas be fully reflected during the legislation process.Further, Wen called for scientific and democratic decision-making."Before making a major decision, the idea must be examined as to whether it is in accordance with the laws. If it goes beyond the authority of the decision makers or goes against the laws, the idea should be discarded," he said.Wen also called for a transparent and open government work system as long as it doesn't involve state secrets, commercial secrets or individual privacy. He cited key areas that should be open to the public including financial budgets, management of public resources, major construction projects and charities, among others. In addition, Wen urged improving the current administrative supervision system and called on government departments to protect civilians' rights to directly supervise the government and support media exposure on illegal activities and improper behavior by government officials.
TOKYO, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara said Tuesday that he will try hard to rebuild a "strategic, mutually beneficial relationship" with China.During a luncheon meeting at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan, Maehara said he will strive to mend ties with China as foreign minister. He also welcomed the agreement between Prime Minister Naoto Kan and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in Belgium Monday to resume talks between high-level officials of the two countries.Earlier in the day Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshito Sengoku expressed his hope for the improvement of Japan's relations with China."Promoting a strategic, mutually beneficial relationship and improving ties between Japan and China will be positive not only for the two countries but also for other Asian countries or countries around the world, especially for their economies," said Sengoku at a regular press conference in Tokyo.China-Japan relations have been soured recently after the Japanese Coast Guard illegally seized a Chinese fishing boat and detained the crew on Sept. 8 in waters off the Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea.Japanese authorities insisted on performing a so-called domestic judicial procedure against the crew despite strong protests from the Chinese government and public. The crew and the boat were released later.
