While an uncertain fall for schools lies ahead, districts are turning toward an education system that brings people together, even when apart.One of those systems is Schoology, made by PowerSchool. It allows teachers to organize their grades, attendance, classes and materials."Schoology really became our hub for communication," said Melissa Stanton, an intervention specialist in Ohio. "Parent communication, my Google Meets, my office hours all there for my students."Hardeep Gulati, the CEO of PowerSchool, says they serve 45 million students in North America. He refers to his company as the "glue" between educators, parents, and students."School is more than the building. It's the people. It's empowering the teachers to have the ability to continue that instruction both online and in the physical format.," Gulat said.He said teachers spend 40% of their time on things that are administrative, not instructional."A big part of this is providing the analytics, so teachers have the full view," Gulati said. "Not just the grade level, but the social and emotional level and the whole child level so they can see how they can support each child better."PowerSchool technology is a software system that integrates every aspect of education, from instruction to training — even paychecks and student portals. The school districts that were already using it were better prepared for the COVID-19 shutdown."We did see the districts who already had a blended learning in place had a 96% engagement," Gulati said. "But districts who had to scramble and did not have some of the things only saw 56% engagement."According to Gulati, parents can access their students' entire schedule and see what their child can expect from their school district this fall.For Stanton, the transition to online learning this past spring wasn't that bad. But she says her district is in a rural area and there are some students who aren't connected."WiFi needs to be for every student — I think everybody — in this time of life," she said, "It needs to be like electricity or water. It's there for everybody rather than the exorbitant prices that it is at times."Stanton says she's spending her summer preparing for more digital instruction this fall."I hope to see my kids in some capacity, whether it be face-to-face or virtual or blended," she said. "But I also worry about school being a safe haven for so many of my students. What happens when they come to school sick, and we all get infected and bring it home to our kids and our families? INDIANAPOLIS — The Marion County Coroner will be releasing the autopsy results to the family of Dreasjon Reed on the same day the family was planning a press conference to demand its release.The 21-year-old man was shot and killed by an IMPD officer following a pursuit on May 6.The Reed family lawyers had requested a copy of the autopsy report, which the Marion County Coroner's Office says was completed on June 12 and then sent to the special prosecutor, but were initially denied their request after the special prosecutor asked that the report not be released.The Reed family had scheduled a press conference for 11 a.m. on Aug. 5 outside the Marion County Coroner's Office to demand the report be released.The Marion County Coroner issued a statement just after 10 a.m. saying they had received a decision from the Marion Superior Court that morning authorizing the release of the autopsy report to Reed's mother, Demetree Wynn.After receiving the report from the coroner's office, Wynn still addressed the media gathered at the coroner's office."You can not do what you did to my son and tell me it was right," Wynn said. "I've been a nurse for 20 years and I'm not stupid. Don't insult my intelligence by assuming I don't know how to read. I know what it says. And if it was your child, I promise you, you couldn't stand here.""I can't breathe, my heart hurts. But I'm still standing here and there ain't no way in hell you can do that to somebody else's kid and be okay with it," Wynn said. "If you're okay with it, let me do it to your son and I'm gonna show you how it feels. I promise you that."The Special Prosecutor overseeing the case, Rosemary Khoury, released the following statement following the release of the report."The Marion County Superior Court has ruled to allow the release of the autopsy report by the Marion County Coroner to the family of Dreasjon Reed. We fully anticipate that the family attorney will adhere to the confidentiality requirements set forth by the Indiana Code which prohibits the release of certain information contained in the report. The State has petitioned the Court to allow for the investigation to be completed before releasing the report so that a thorough and complete investigation could be conducted. The investigation is still ongoing and the team respects and will adhere to the Court's decision as it works to provide as comprehensive an investigation as possible."Khoury was appointed as the special prosecutor on June 4. On July 2, the court ordered IMPD and the Marion County lab to turn over all evidence to Indiana State Police. INDIANAPOLIS -- It was a busy day for police in Greenwood, Indiana on Monday after three accidents involving trains left three people injured. The three are expected to survive. No one was seriously injured in any of the crashes. The first crash happened around 12:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Pushville Road near E. Worthville Road. These are the same active ingredients found in hand sanitizers available for personal use and at schools -- but that doesn't mean people should give up on them.The bacterium Enterococcus faecium resides in our guts, but if encountered in a hospital, it can cause various complicated infections affecting the abdomen, skin, urinary tract and blood. This particular bug is a member of the Enterococci family, which ranks as the fourth and fifth leading cause of sepsis, a life-threatening bloodstream infection, in North America and Europe, respectively.Many hospital-acquired infections have decreased or been kept in check by Australia's strict hygiene practices that rely on alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Yet drug-resistant E. faecium infections have increased in Australian hospitals over time, according to the study authors.This alarming pattern prompted them to investigate whether E. faecium might be developing resistance to the alcohols used in hand rubs. 1343

INDIANAPOLIS -- Police say the body of a "small adult" was found inside a tote in the back of a U-Haul van n Indianapolis Wednesday afternoon.Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the 4000 block of S East Street just before 1:30 p.m. after someone found the body inside a vehicle on the U-Haul property. A spokesperson with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the body was found in a tote bag in the back of a van. The cause of death has not been released. Indianapolis police initially thought the body was an infant but later determined that it was an adult's body found inside the tote. Jeff Lockridge, Manager of Media and Public Relations for U-Haul issued the following statement Wednesday afternoon.  792
