SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The California Restaurant Association has a grim forecast for the restaurant industry as communities across the state begin to see more and more restaurant closures.When the coronavirus pandemic started, the CRA projected that 20 to 30 percent of restaurants could close their doors for good because of the pandemic. That projection is looking to be on the higher end now, according to Jot Condie, the CRA's president and CEO."With this second shutdown, it's likely to be closer to 30 percent," Condie said. "A lot of restaurants that we're learning are closed, are doing it quietly. There are no signs posted, no banners saying we're closed for good."He said while many variables are at play, even when restaurants can reopen completely, many restaurant owners will not be out of the woods yet."After the opening, you'll see a sort of shaking out of the industry in those first 18 months," Condie said.Condie said the restaurants most at risk are fine dining and independently owned.He also said the impact will likely vary in various parts of the state. Condie believes that San Diego County and Southern California's restaurant industry may fare better than the rest of the state because of better weather throughout the year. The weather will be a significant factor for restaurants that can offer outdoor dining and expanded outdoor dining."Where the weather cooperates almost all year, you're likely not to see the challenges of survival that you will see in, for example, San Francisco or the Bay Area," he said. 1546

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The family of Kimberly Fattorini is suing former San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman in connection with her fatal overdose, according to a TMZ Sports report.Fattorini's parents claim Merriman drugged and assaulted their daughter before she died at a house party in 2017, the report says.In a statement, Merriman's representatives said they are unaware of the lawsuit and that the original police investigation found no wrongdoing by the former NFL star.Her parents say Fattorini and her friends were invited to a club promoter's house party, and that Merriman "was allegedly witnessed carrying a bottle with some sort of liquid inside."At some point during the party, she texted the promoter saying, "you friend just poor'd half G in my drink," the lawsuit says. Her "parents believe G refers to GHB," the TMZ report says.Per the report, Fattorini's parents claim that first responders found her unresponsive and "half naked with jeans unzipped and buttoned" at a party in Los Angeles. A preliminary autopsy listed her death caused by a lethal cocktail of alcohol, cocaine, and gamma-hydroxybutyrate -- the last more commonly known as the "date rape" drug GHB.The suit alleges that while her autopsy did not reveal foul play, "a test for sexual assault wasn't done because officials said it wasn't conducted at the time of the initial autopsy, and couldn't be done properly afterward," the report says.The "complaint claims negligence, battery and a violation of the drug dealer liability act," and the Fattorinis are seeking damages, TMZ Sports reports.Merriman's representative told TMZ, "As of right now Shawne, nor his attorney, have any knowledge of him being named in any lawsuit. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Federal Bureau of Investigation is asking for the public's help to connect dozens of victims to the confessions made by a convicted serial killer.Samuel Little, 79, has confessed to 93 murders to date, according to the FBI, and all of his confessions are believed to be credible. The murders took place between 1970 and 2005 in multiple states across the country.The FBI says Little is the most prolific serial killer in U.S. history. He was arrested in 2012 and extradited to California on a narcotics charge. After his arrest, Little's DNA was connected to three unsolved homicides between 1987 and 1989. He was convicted and sentenced in 2014 to three consecutive life terms without parole.In 2018, Little provided the FBI with detailed information on dozens of additional murders he is believed to have committed across the country, including murders in Illinois, Kentucky and Ohio.Law enforcement have been able to verify 50 of Little's confessions, but that leaves dozens of victims still unnamed and yet to be found. Fifteen of those cases are in the Los Angeles area.The FBI says Little confessed to strangling his victims, although most of their deaths were originally ruled overdoses or accidental. Some bodies have never been found.Little was convicted of two crimes in San Diego in 1984 after he raped and beat two women. Retired Detective Sergeant Wayne Spees was a rookie police officer on patrol just before 5 a.m. that October morning, when he and his partner discovered Little at a vacant lot near Market Street."He comes out of the back seat ... zipping his pants up ... He's insisting that he and his wife were just leaving," said Spees.Wedged inside the car was a prostitute, naked and bloodied. Little had choked her unconscious. Spees arrested him and spent several hours with him at the hospital while evidence was collected."He said, 'I didn't rape that ****. I just kicked the **** out of her. I'm going to kill that whore.' He had no remorse. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Surveillance footage captured a man attacking a gas station customer in Kearny Mesa before fleeing.A 54-year-old man was paying for his coffee at the Mobil station at 8380 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. on Saturday just after 3 p.m., when the suspect began speaking to the man. Police said the suspect was not making any sense when he was speaking to the victim.Then for no reason, the man pulled a small wooden bat from a tool bag and began to hit the victim on the back of his head.
