Allstate Insurance announced on Wednesday that they are planning to lay off 3,800 employees.In a press release, the company said the layoffs were part of a restructuring plan to lower costs.Allstate will make the cuts in the sales, claims, and support departments."Implementing this plan is difficult as we still deal with the impact of the pandemic but necessary to provide customers the best value," said Tom Wilson, Chair, President, and CEO of Allstate in the press release. A woman in Tallahassee, Florida is accused of drawing a gun on another shopper at a Publix grocery store last Sunday after the victim cut in line, the Tallahassee Democrat reported. According to a report of the incident by the Leon County Sheriff's Office obtained by the Tallahassee Democrat, Jessica Mock, 36, was about to check out at the Publix, but had forgotten an item. She left her cart in line to retrieve the item. When she returned, another customer had gotten in line in front of her. After Mock and the other female customer argued, the other woman got in another line. According to the report, the customer told Mock, "I'll meet you outside." (KGTV) - An Alpine family woke up to panicked horses and a disturbing sight near their house: the remnants of burned sky lantern."Noticed the horses were panicking and running back and forth in their pens," said Lucy Olivier.Along Japatul Valley Road, Olivier and her husband woke up Saturday morning to terrified horses, bathed in sweat. One of them had injured his leg. The source of the horses' fear was just feet away: the burned-out remnants of a sky lantern. Banned in California, the small hot air balloons use candles to spark their flight.In the one Olivier discovered, there were birthday candles sitting on popsicle sticks, attached to straws and a large garbage bag. It landed near dry brush not far from the main house, an ominous sight in an area prone to wildfires."We were infuriated. Thank God it didn't start a fire, but it could have," said Olivier.In San Carlos, another anxious, but grateful family reported discovering a similar device and some burn marks on their roof on New Year's Day. It's the second time they have discovered a sky lantern on their property since Thanksgiving.Some 30 states have now banned sky lanterns, the suspected cause of wildfires from Utah to Washington to South Carolina. (KGTV) - An Alpine woman who tested positive for COVID-19 says her quarantine turned into a nightmare as a postal carrier delivered a package.This past weekend, Tamica got a COVID test after three co-workers tested positive. She also tested positive and remains asymptomatic."Since I got that Sunday, I've been quarantining at home," said Tamica.On Tuesday, past 1 p.m., as the mail truck pulled up to her apartment off Tavern Road, her two 80-lb. dogs ran to the front door and started barking. She says the door was open but the screen door was shut, as the postal carrier stood outside, at the door, with something in his hand."They were instantly pawing at their face and backed up, and acting weird ... jumping up and down and making a whining noise," said Tamica.Tamica believes the postal carrier had used his pepper spray. At that point, Tamica says the dogs jumped on the door and pushed it open. They ran out, and she ran after them. Tamica says the letter carrier sprayed toward one dog as it ran off, before turning to her other dog."I just jumped in front of my dog. He's wasn't doing anything. He wasn't barking. He was just sitting there .... He's a golden retriever and very friendly ... The postal carrier is spraying us, yelling and just spraying wildly," Tamica said.Tamica says that went on for about a minute, and it seemed liked forever."I was mad, scared, ready to cry … yelling at him to stop, stop, stop!" said Tamica.She says he finally did. Her dogs' eyes were left shut and stinging for hours. Her eyes were also ripe with pain. Tamica filed a complaint with the Postal Service."It's outrageous.
