Tinder is soaring thanks to its new premium membership plan: Tinder Gold.Match Group, which owns 45 dating platforms including Tinder, OkCupid and Match.com, reported on Tuesday that Tinder Gold subscriptions boosted sales 19% from a year ago.Tinder added a record 476,000 paying members last quarter. Now 2.5 million customers pay for Tinder.Match CEO Greg Blatt called Tinder's quarter "fantastic" in a prepared statement.Investors swiped right on the report: Shares of Match Group spiked 11% on Wednesday. The stock is up 75% this year.Tinder already had Tinder Plus, which costs .99 a month and allowed customers to increase the number of people who viewed their profiles, use unlimited likes and undo swipes.In August, Tinder debuted Tinder Gold, a .99 monthly subscription that lets customers see who they've matched with as soon as they open the app. Tinder Gold saves time on the app because people don't have to swipe through other profiles to find matches."Tinder Gold plays on people's impatience," says BTIG analyst Brandon Ross.Ross says Match Group has mastered how to make money off loyal Tinder users."They're proving that if you have a deeply engaged base you will eventually get them to spend money," he explained.Still, Match Group faces competition from other dating apps like Bumble, Tastebuds, Hinge and Coffee Meets Bagel and will need to show investors that it's adding new paid subscribers.But analysts are convinced Tinder has room to grow and convert more customers to its paid offerings."There's a lot of momentum that remains behind the broader Tinder story," says Piper Jaffray analyst Sam Kemp.  1646

Three of America's largest grocery chains, Kroger, Walmart and Wegmans, have joined ALDI and Target in issuing a recall for peaches in connection with a nationwide Salmonella outbreak.On Saturday, Prima Wawona expanded a recall of peaches shipped by the company to include those bagged and loose peaches that had been sold across the country.The new recall includes Kroger stores and its affiliates — including Jay-C, King Soopers, City Market. Fry's, Ralphs, Food 4 Less, Foods Co. and Smiths — as well as peaches sold at Walmart and Wegmans.The possibly contaminated fruit was sold between June 1 and Aug. 3Consumers should not eat the peaches. Instead, the CDC says to throw them away, even if some of them were eaten and no one has gotten sick.Once the peaches have been discarded, health officials suggest washing and sanitizing the places where the produce was stored, like countertops, refrigerator drawers and shelves. The CDC also urged restaurants, retailers, suppliers and distributors not to sell or ship the recalled peaches.The FDA also advises that anyone who doesn't remember when they purchased Prima Wawona peaches or those that aren't sure who supplied their peaches should throw away peaches in their fridge out of an abundance of caution.As of August 19, 2020, CDC is reporting a total of 68 Salmonella cases across nine states.The CDC is investigating to find the source of contamination and to identify other retailers that may have sold tainted peaches.Symptoms of Salmonella infection include:Most people infected with Salmonella develop diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps six hours to six days after being exposed to the bacteria.The illness usually lasts four to seven days, and most people recover without treatment.In some people, the illness may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. This weekend, most Americans will set their clocks back one hour Saturday night as everyone reverts back to standard time.Every state except Hawaii and Arizona observe Daylight Saving Time in the summer months.The idea of Daylight Saving Time has been around for more than a century for a variety of reasons, including more evening daylight and saving energy.Germany was the first country to experiment with it, and it wasn't fully adopted in the United States until 1918 when "An Act to save daylight and to provide standard time, for the United States" was passed.Once this law was passed, it established the time zones we use today — Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific — and specified when Daylight Saving Time would begin and end.Two years later, however, the Daylight Saving Time option was repealed and left up to localities to decide whether or not they'd change their clocks.Nationwide Daylight Saving Time returned for almost three years during World War II when President Franklin Roosevelt instituted "War Time," or year-round Daylight Saving Time.It wasn't until 1966 when President Lyndon Johnson signed the Uniform Time Act, which ended a lot of confusion by setting standards for when Daylight Saving Time would begin and end.
