SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two more migrants were diagnosed with the flu in the county shelter downtown and one was sent to the hospital, according to Jose Alvarez Communications Specialist with the County of San Diego Communications Office.The flights have been landing at Lindbergh Field since May 14th, easing overcrowding in Texas detention centers.Border Patrol officials stated migrants are given a health screening in Texas before they travel to San Diego, and are screened again once they land.County Health officials stated a total of 31 migrants have been diagnosed with the flu since May 19, officials say. There they get another health screening and starting Thursday, everyone gets a mask and Tamiflu pill as a precaution to keep the sickness from spreading. The pill and a flu shot is offered to staff and volunteers at the shelter.As of Friday, extra nurses are coming into the shelter to check on the group and ensure no one else has come down with the flu.Those who are diagnosed go with their families to a hotel that has individual air units, so they don't spread the virus. They are educated on why they should stay in the room and, if they leave, what precautions to take so they don't infect others.Migrants in the shelter can come and go as they wish.Border Patrol stated migrants who exhibit flu-like symptoms are not allowed to fly and instead are given medical treatment in Texas. The complaint states Robert Flaxman paid 0,000 to get his son in the "side door" "through [the USD varsity coach] and [USD varsity sport]".Most students said they didn't know his son, an Industrial Systems Engineer Major. They did have opinions on the act itself.Former soccer athlete Lexi Phillips, who is a Sophomore, said it was like a slap in the face, "colleges, when you're applying, definitely ask if you're an athlete or not because they recognize how much work it is and so people who haven't been doing that and saying 'oh well I've been doing that' just to get into an elite school definitely isn't fair and isn't fair for someone who's been trying even harder to get in and they take their spot."Other students like Missica Derhalli, who is a Freshman, say it makes them sick, "I really can't believe that we would be doing something like that. I picked this college particularly because I felt like it was a good, holistic place for me to be and I was going to be getting a truly good education.""Just knowing that there are people who aren't putting in effort and I spent 13 years of my education just working so hard and these people aren't working at all and it's just it's very disheartening," Missica added. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Wildfire season is here and county officials want to make sure San Diegans are prepared. As summer heats up and brush dries out, Cal Fire is urging everyone to create a wildfire action plan. According to the agency, the plan should be familiar to all members of your household well in advance of a fire. This includes making an emergency supply kit and creating an evacuation plan. If you’re unsure how to start preparing a wildfire action plan, Cal Fire has some tips. Create an evacuation plan that includes:· A designated emergency meeting location outside the fire or hazard area. This is critical to determine who has safely evacuated from the affected area.· Several different escape routes from your home and community. Practice these often so everyone in your family is familiar in case of emergency.· Have an evacuation plan for pets and large animals such as horses and other livestock.· A Family Communication Plan that designates an out-of-area friend or relative as a point of contact to act as a single source of communication among family members in case of separation. (It is easier to call or message one person and let them contact others than to try and call everyone when phone, cell, and internet systems can be overloaded or limited during a disaster.) Be Prepared:· Have fire extinguishers on hand and train your family how to use them (check expiration dates regularly).· Ensure that your family knows where your gas, electric, and water main shut-off controls are located and how to safely shut them down in an emergency.· Assemble an Emergency Supply Kit for each person, as recommended by the American Red Cross. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - U.S. Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) and his wife Margaret were indicted by a federal grand jury in San Diego Tuesday on suspicion of converting more than 0,000 in campaign funds to pay for extravagant vacations and other personal expenses.The Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California said the 48-page indictment includes instances from 2009 through 2016 in which the Hunters reportedly used campaign money illegally. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two greater one-horned rhino calves took their first steps into their habitat for the first time this week at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.Next to their mothers Asha and Tanaya, the calves — born on March 25 and April 11, respectively — were finally able to explore their Asian Savanna habitat. Both pairs bonded while traversing the area, before intereacting with some of the other wildlife in the habitat.Tanaya and her female calf, which has not yet been named, enjoyed some wallowing in the mud, taking a cool dip, and meeting some of the blackbuck antelope and other animals in the 40-acre habitat.Asha and her male calf, named Arjun, explored hills and grassy areas. Arjun also met one of the habitat's Javan bantang (before quickly running back to mom's side."It’s great to see Asha and Tanaya introducing their calves to other wildlife for the first time," said Jillian King, senior wildlife care specialist, San Diego Zoo Safari Park. "Everything is new to the calves right now, so it will be interesting to watch them explore. We will keep a watchful eye on them, and look forward to them meeting more of the wildlife on the savanna soon."The greater one-horned rhino is listed as "vulnerable" on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species. This is primarily because of habitat loss, poaching, and illegal rhino horn trafficking.The species, once widespread in Southeast Asia, is now only found in India and Nepal.
